DSHS FFA Grounds and Nursery Services Specialist 2
Do you have experience with gardening and grounds maintenance? We are excited to have an opportunity for a Grounds and Nursery Services, Specialist, to join our team at Western State Hospital!

We are looking for a self-starter who is passionate about landscapes and understands the importance of a clean, tranquil, inviting space. Working in all weather conditions, you'll have an important role in supporting a safe environment for the team and clients we serve.

Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.
Some of what you'll do:
  • Herbicide/pesticide license preferred
  • Perform skilled gardening work on the campus
  • Maintain lawns, plants, shrubs, trees, walkways, flower beds, and landscaping
  • Use a variety of manual tools such as rakes, pruning shears, shovels, and wheelbarrows
  • Spread, cultivate, and weed soil for gardens and level and seed lawns
  • Clean up trash, paper, and debris
  • Operate work vehicles and power equipment such as riding lawn mowers, grass sweepers, tractor-mounted fertilizer spreaders, blowers, hand mowers, weed eaters, pressure washers, and snow blowers
  • Load, transport, and spread soil and fertilizers


Who should apply:


People with high school graduation or equivalent and at least one year of experience or training involving grounds maintenance, gardening, plant care, cultivation, and landscape working in gardening or in the grounds maintenance field.
