Eastern State Hospital is seeking a dynamic Occupational Therapist 2. We need an Occupational Therapist 2 to help evaluate and treat hospitalized psychiatric patients. As an integrated part of the treatment team, you will help assess clients, create treatment plans, and work with a multidisciplinary team that helps patients meet their treatment goals. Schedule: Day shift, Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Some of what you'll do:


  • Collect data for screening, evaluation, and re-evaluation.
  • Administer and score routine and criterion-referenced tests.
  • Evaluate and assess patients to determine current level of occupational performance.
  • Determine rehabilitation potential and needs; Plan 1:1 and treatment programs based on needs identified by evaluations.
  • Develop treatment goals, objectives, and interventions appropriate to age, abilities, and projected occupational roles.
  • Collaborate with patient, treatment team, and other practitioners in establishment of treatment plan.
  • Consult with others concerning patient strengths, needs, and functional levels.
  • Implement treatment, modify as needed, and provide follow-up.
  • Instruct and direct Certified OT Assistants on clinical issues.
  • Document patient response to interventions and keep detailed records.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, staff, significant others, and community members in a clear and concise manner.
  • Model pro-social behaviors and manage patients' maladaptive behaviors while ensuring safety and security.
What we're looking for:
  • An Occupational Therapist who is independent, self-motivated, and a strong team player
  • A therapist with working knowledge of group behavior and dynamics
  • A therapist who possesses the ability to work with difficult patients, de-escalate patients in crisis, and remain professional in difficult situations.
  • Willingness to learn and incorporate new information into OT practice.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health issues and recovery principles
  • Someone who can clearly represent OT concepts and practice while simultaneously working as an integral member on an interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Someone who can communicate clearly and effectively with peers, patients, management, and the public.
  • Proficiency with the operation of computer, copy machine, and patient lifting equipment.

Skills that are a plus:
  • Knowledge of behavioral health issues and recovery principles
  • Knowledge of substance use maladaptive behaviors as well as recovery strategies
  • Experience observing and analyzing behavioral patterns and function
  • In-depth working knowledge of therapy group interventions as well as individual therapy session dynamics
  • Knowledge of self-regulation and emotional regulation through the sensory system

Apply if you:

  • Graduated from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • Successfully completed the National Board Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Hold a current Washington State license, or are license eligible to practice as an Occupational Therapist
  • Physical ability to move patients and equipment.
