Purpose:


Provide expertise from own personal experience in recovery from mental illness and/or substance abuse to benefit the individuals served by helping promote a culture that recognizes, understands, and respects each client's point of view, experiences, and preferences. Encourage use of the Drop-In Center and other community resources and services.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • As an individual in recovery from mental illness or substance abuse, Fosters peer-led socialization activities and WRAP opportunities in collaboration with the Center's other consumer leadership
  • Assists with daily operations, including coverage during Center hours of operation, procurement of activity related resources, safety, and other needs as determined
  • Provides referral for and/or direct crisis intervention services to assess and stabilize a consumer
  • Maintains compliance at all times with agency policies regarding documentation
  • Maintains compliance with confidentiality policies and procedures at all times
  • Attends clinical meetings, supervision and trainings
  • Works cooperatively with other members of the treatment team
  • Maintains positive and mutually respectful relationships with other human service providers, entitlement agencies, health care vendors, and the community
  • Assists with outcome measures
  • Reports to assigned supervisor and actively seek consultation whenever necessary or requested by supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Willingness to self-disclose personal recovery experience from a mental illness and/or substance abuse for the purpose of consumer engagement
  • Must be a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS), or obtain the certification within one year of starting the position
  • Firsthand experience working with individuals living with mental illness and co-occurring disorder or personal, direct experience accessing mental health and/or substance abuse services.
