Part-Time - Non-Exempt - 30 hours per week

Salary: $21 per hour

Option to expand to Full-Time with expanded skills and responsibilities.

Hours: Monday - Thursday 8:00AM-3:30PM,

One week a month Sunday 10:30AM-6:30PM, Monday - Wednesday 8:00AM-3:30PM

Reports To: Director of Programming

The Grace Cafe Daytime Services program is a drop-in day center in Center City Philadelphia for individuals currently experiencing homelessness. Grace Cafe Daytime Services provides showers, laundry, case management, a clothing closet, and other programming to 50 individuals Monday-Thursday. In addition to weekday programming each Sunday we offer a drop in Wellness Clinic, a home-cooked hot meal, and case management. The Drop-In Center Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the drop-in center space and clothing closet.

The Center-Philadelphia is aligned with other communities of faith and conscience in creating movements for intersectional justice. Education & Experience Expectations:

Associate’s degree in Behavioral Health, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Family/Consumer Sciences, Substance Abuse, Mental Health, Human Services, Education, Counseling, or Therapy is helpful but not required. Experience working with a non-profit is preferable.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Staff drop-in center welcome table
  • Set up drop-in space daily
  • Ensure tables are sanitized and floor is swept of debris
  • Make sure computers and TV are set up and ready to be used
  • Welcome guests, answer questions about services, and orient new guests to the space
  • Remind guests of appointments throughout the day
  • Oversee computer usage and phone charging locker
  • Assist guests with computer literacy as needed.
  • Manage clothing closet
  • Sort and put away new donations
  • Facilitate clothing appointments
  • Log distributed items daily in log book and weekly on the computer
  • Maintain inventory of donations and supplies needed to support the clothing closet including clothing, underwear, toiletries, and other needed supplies. Work with the Director of Programming to order and/or promote donation needs (through social media and other avenues) to restock supplies.
  • Maintain timely and detailed records as required
  • Complete HMIS training and maintain records
  • Provide crisis management and make referrals to needed services including health, mental health, public entitlements, education and vocational training.
  • Participate in staff meetings and leadership development activities to support the overall functioning of the program.
  • Lead and train volunteers partnering with the center to provide meaningful experiences and a sense of accomplishment.
  • Participate in the overall function of the program as needed.
  • Serve as an advocate or liaison for individuals with community organizations.

  • A demonstrated capacity to creatively seek out resources, build relationships and problem-solve.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and network with guests, other agencies, service providers, volunteers and staff.
  • Ability to analyze socio-economic conditions and identify unmet needs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

Part time benefits: The Center - Philadelphia offers 2 weeks of vacation, 8 paid holidays and 5 paid sick days. The Center - Philadelphia participates in the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation program. The Center-Philadelphia offers a $2000 health stipend and option to enroll in a 403B retirement savings plan. This position is funded through a contract and is contingent upon continuing funding. This is an hourly non-exempt position. Salary: $21/per hour.

Full-Time Option with Meal Coordinator addition:

This position may be expanded into a full time Non-Exempt position- 40 hours per week with the additional skills and responsibilities listed below.

Hours: Every Sunday 10:30AM-6:30PM, Monday - Thursday 8:00AM-4:00PM

Meal & Drop in Center Coordinator

Education & Experience Expectations:

Associate’s degree in Nutrition, food service and/or cooking related certifications helpful but not required. ServSafe manager certification preferred, or willingness to achieve certification within the first two months. Experience working with a non-profit is preferable.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Cook nutritious meals for 100 people each Sunday and meal prep up to 200 meals to be served during the week.
  • Emphasizing fresh produce and lean proteins where possible.
  • Meal plan and arrange for food and supplies to be purchased, donated, or delivered.
  • Lead a small group of weekly volunteers.
  • Delegate tasks to cooking volunteers on Sundays
  • Communicate needs with donation collection volunteers and volunteer shoppers
  • Orient volunteers to cleanliness and safety standards
  • Support volunteers partnering with the Center to provide meaningful experiences and a sense of accomplishment.
  • Maintain timely and detailed records as required.
  • Participate in staff meetings and leadership development activities to support the overall functioning of the program.
  • Participate in the overall function of the program as needed.

Position Requirements:

  • Familiarity with commercial cooking equipment.
  • Ability to plan meal choices within a set budget.
  • A demonstrated capacity to creatively seek out resources, build relationships and problem-solve.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and network with volunteers and staff.
  • Ability to analyze socio-economic conditions in order to plan healthy and
  • delicious meals.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to lift bulk food supplies, pots, and pans.
