DESCRIPTION

Starting salary for this position is: $16.25 (Hourly)

Employees starting at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. If an employee starting at anything higher than the entry step of the range, will have salary step advancement after 12 months and salary step advancement every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase in salary.

The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Mailing Processing - Driver in the DIST Business Office Division.

GENERAL DEFINITION

Positions at this level independently drive vans to deliver and collect U.S. and intercampus mail; load and unload mail sacks & trays; make deliveries to, and pick up from various U.S. Post Offices; handle bulk, insured, certified, express, and First Class Mail. Deliver Presorted Bulk mailings to Airport Bulk Mail Acceptance Unit. May be required to sort, classify, and rate mail for proper postage.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Deliver U.S. and Intercampus mail to 75 mailstops on CCS campuses, Head Start locations, and District offices.
  • Pick up U.S. mail at various Post Offices for distribution campus wide.
  • Deliver discounted Bulk and First class presort mailings to Airport BMEU.
  • Operate high speed metered postage machine.
  • Answer inquiries from customers and resolve routine customer questions.
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions.
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan and perform related duties as required.
  • Complies with district policy, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statute and collective bargaining agreements. *

COMPETENCIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)


  • Knowledge of: mail handling, sorting and delivery techniques; operation of delivery van; State motor vehicle laws; rules pertaining to State vehicles and related equipment.
  • Ability to: Physically handle, sort and deliver mail, parcels, and packages which may involve lifting and bundling; use judgement in safeguarding the transport and delivery of valuables; maintain suitable appearance consistent with duties of this employment; maintain courteous and effective relationship with mail services users and general public.

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS)
  • Positions typically require high school graduation or equivalent and possession of a valid unrestricted motor vehicle operator’s license and one year of experience sorting and distributing mail.
  • Ability to memorize large amounts of information.

CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the District to sponsor an H1-B visa. In addition, the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.

Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position. Once an applicant is chosen for an interview, they are required to complete and submit a declaration regarding sexual misconduct and investigation per state law.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Work is performed in an office environment which is adequately heated and ventilated as well as driving between campuses for the delivery of mail.
  • Work is active in nature.
  • Frequently moves up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional kneeling, stooping, bending and crouching.
  • Frequent repetitive hand/writ motions and finger manipulation.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Non-permanent hourly

  • Ability to travel locally
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • If using personal vehicle for travel proof of driver’s license and car insurance required.
  • Work days – Monday-Wednesday-Thursday and 5.5 hours per day
