JOB TITLE: Director of Sales

REPORTS TO: VP of Lodging

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time Year-Round/ Hourly

STARTING PAY: $75000 + Commision

POSITION:

The Director of Sales is responsible for leading a team to achieve Solitude's sales and revenue goals. This role develops plans and strategies to meet sales targets, cultivate relationships with external and internal customers, and create product awareness among local and destination markets. The Director of Sales also manages the Central Reservations team, ensuring it operates in a way that maximizes revenue opportunities.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare and manage the annual Sales and Central Reservations budgets, including the development of sales goals and revenue projections for review by VP of Lodging
  • Develop and implement strategic annual business plans to generate revenue and visitation that meet established sales goals for key lines of business, including group, wholesale, conferences, weddings, and private events
  • Assume accountability of sales goals and actively manage sales plan strategies and tactics. Monitor the ongoing progress and recommend and implement adjustments that will result in maximum revenue and visitation
  • Coordinate with the Marketing and Revenue Management departments to make progress toward company goals through the expansion of markets and guest segments
  • Monitor the competitive market and recommend appropriate changes on an ongoing basis.
  • Keep apprised of the travel industry to detect market trends for development of new sales strategies and increased revenue opportunities
  • Promote visibility of the resort through active involvement in industry associations, events, and trade shows
  • Establish relationships with the community, professional organizations, and the Chamber of Commerce
  • Manage Delphi/Salesforce application, ensuring contacts, contracts, and reports are maintained and optimized
  • Manage all group services and coordination
  • Manage the process for interviewing, hiring, training, and processing paperwork for travel agents
  • Ensure travel agents are properly trained and performance is reviewed monthly
  • Ensure staff is aware of all necessary information vital to the sales operation through call monitoring, memos, emails, one on one coaching sessions, and departmental meetings
  • Generate sales and revenue reporting for budget analysis, forecasting, and goal setting
  • Lead a team of direct sales team reports who are responsible for generating sales through solicitation of existing accounts while prospecting for and developing new business. Management of this team includes:
    • Setting annual goals and objectives
    • Setting a sales incentive plan
    • Tracking and calculating monthly commissions
    • Completing annual performance reviews
  • Lead a team of central reservations agents. Management of this team includes:
    • Assisting central reservations in recruiting, evaluating, and terminating agents
    • Assist with the training of all central reservations staff
    • Monitoring call volume to ensure that central reservation maintains appropriate coverage

SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum bachelor's degree in business administration, sales, marketing, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of sales experience, preferably in the hospitality or resort space
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisor/managerial experience
  • Proficiency in Delphi/Salesforce, MS Office, Excel, and general computer use
  • Proficiency or ability to become proficient with Inntopia, Springer-Miller System, RTP, and Open Table
  • Excellent organizational skills and acute attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic work environment while managing multiple, high priority tasks
  • Ability to align decision making with company values, strategies, and goals
  • Proficient in working across teams to deliver on a common goal
  • Ability to work outside in the winter and summer under varying conditions
  • Willing to work weekends and nights as needed to support group events and on-resort activation
  • Ability to travel out-of-state as needed to activate on sales strategies
  • Intermediate or advanced ski or snowboard ability
