Position Summary

Executive Director, Practice Operations oversees practices within the specified section or region. In addition to overseeing the daily operations of the practices, Executive Director will implement new programs, develop and implement regional/section strategy for growth and continuously seek opportunities for innovation and process improvement. The Executive Director will partner with JHM hospitals/entities in their region, on ongoing and new project opportunities as they arise. The Executive Director of Practice Operations will balance the needs of the practices with the needs and priorities of JHCP and JHM.

This position reports to the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of JHCP and will be a member of the JHCP senior leadership team.

Essential Job Functions:

  • In partnership with the Regional Medical Director, ensures all practices deliver patient-centered care with the highest levels of quality, safety, employee engagement, patient experience and efficiency. Understands and monitors all related data, and develops and implements corrective action plans as needed.
  • Coordinates and develops the annual operating and capital budget for the region/section to include productivity and volume projections, revenue and expense forecasts, new programs, and capital requests. In addition, provides continuous financial management oversight to the practices and develops and implements corrective actions when necessary.
  • Initiates strategic plans to address anticipated growth and demographic changes in the communities. Coordinates all practice relocations or expansions in the region/section. Serves as point person for all space planning, renovations, and construction.
  • Responsible for the hiring, supervision and mentoring of all Practice Administrators. (in coordination with the physician's Office Medical Director) Works with the Practice Administrators to ensure that qualified employees are hired, oriented, trained and developed. Monitors staff turnover and retention rates closely, and takes corrective action quickly when trends are identified.
  • Partners with JHCP central departments (HR, Finance, Quality, Regulatory, Risk, Safety, Education, IT, Patient Experience) to ensure practices appropriately collaborate and align.
  • Ensures that practices have necessary resources: staffing, vaccines, drugs, medical supplies, capital equipment, facility maintenance and coordination of support and training.
  • Ensures that all aspects of services rendered to patients are consistent with corporate and regulatory standards, to include: registration accuracy, standardized workflows supporting EMR, clinical care and patient flow, compliance, safety, appointment and telephone access.

Education, Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Healthcare, Business, Nursing or similar field is required.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible related experience including 5-7 years of management experience with significant business impact, that includes financial management.
  • Demonstrated skills in practice management and clinical/ambulatory operations, preferably in multiple locations.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive or difficult situations with tact and diplomacy and to interact with diverse groups of people both within and outside of the organization.
  • Highly effective written and verbal skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop a strong team.
  • Demonstrated ability to form positive working relationships with physicians and other clinicians.
  • Registered Nurse with a valid State of Maryland Nursing License a plus.
