Crane Aerospace & Electronics is seeking to hire a Director of Operations position in Lynnwood, WA.

Job Summary:

The Director of Operations be responsible for manufacturing operations for the Modular Power products in the Lynnwood, WA site in support of the overall operations performance across the two locations in the US and Taiwan. The total organization size of Crane Aerospace and Electronics is 2300 associates, with Modular Power having 425 associates, 85 of which report directly through this role.

The Director of Operations is a key member of the Modular Power leadership team whose peers include Directors of: Sales and Product Management, Business, Program Management, Engineering, and the Kaohsiung Site Operations. This role will require a high level of leadership through influence and will have to partner with the Lynnwood Site Operations Director who has multiple functional groups that support the Modular Power business, including the EH&S manager, Continuous Improvement Manager (known as the Crane Business System Leader), and facilities. This role will also partner closely with the Kaohsiung Site Operations Director to drive the SIOP and procurement functions for both locations. Additionally, this role will be the face of the Modular Power Operations, reporting on the combined Modular Power Operations performance and coordinating activities between sites. This role will be responsible for working with both Lynnwood and Kaohsiung Site Operations Directors to ensure a wholistic operations plan exists to support the business strategic plan, including physical space, costs, and build location decisions.

Essential Functions:

  • Providing leadership to the operations functions including guiding, delegating, developing, and training the team to meet current and future customer's needs while keeping employees engaged and safe. Safety of employees is the first and most important priority of the role.
  • Using a metrics driven cadence and a focus on coaching to drive root cause and corrective action. The use effective 5 why and problem-solving methods to get to root cause, and then a passion to read across corrective action to other parts of the business.
  • Continuously implementing improvement processes through Kaizen, Six Sigma, and JDI (Just Do It) events, utilizing Crane Business System (CBS) tools such as, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Problem Solving, Transactional Process Improvement (TPI), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and 5S as needed to reduce cost and increase throughput.
  • Guiding supply chain leadership to manage source of supply through a U.S. centric supply base that supports both Taiwan and US manufacturing locations.
  • Creating and driving the SIOP process that links demand, procurement, and two site manufacturing with the outcome of world class execution and customer delivery.
  • Participation in the development of long-term business unit strategies, and short-term business planning. Working with the Kaohsiung Site Operations Leader to translate business strategy into operational goals and objectives for each site and operational function. Establish key measurements and develop/implement plans to achieve targets.
  • Sharing “best practices” among the Modular Power sites and utilizing “best practices” from other companies within and outside Crane Co.
  • Developing and presenting to all levels on the organizational, strategic, financial, and operational performance and proposals aimed at continually advancing manufacturing effectiveness.
  • Directing, motivating, and appraising performance of reporting departments and personnel while providing the necessary coordination between departments. Strong focus is required on talent management, succession planning, and ensuring effective development plans are available for associates.
  • In concert with site leaders, finance, and the VP/GM, reviews and approves cost control reports, cost estimates, manpower, and facilities requirements forecast and manages the business capital spend for the Modular Power business.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience :

o 10+ years of manufacturing, operations, and/or supply chain experience in high mix/low volume Aerospace, Defense, Space or Medical manufacturing environments, or top tier Automotive electronics manufacturing experience with an ability to learn a new, dynamic regulatory environment, and experience dealing with customers and challenging suppliers.

o 5+ years in a management/leadership role.

o Must be a proven leader with an outstanding cadence of metrics and reviews monthly.

o Demonstrated ability to effectively develop and lead a team of individuals within a manufacturing environment.

o Demonstrated experience deploying lean manufacturing tools to achieve breakthrough results.

o Expert in running a business within either a AS9100D, AS16949, or ISO9001 Quality Management System.

o Familiarity or ability to learn DLA standards and execute in a tightly controlled, highly regulated environment with strong government oversight.

o Preferred: Experience in global, multi-site experience in multi-cultural environments.

o Preferred: Experience driving common approaches across sites and able to manage remotely.

· Knowledge : In-depth knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes, systems, and technology. Technical expertise in functional areas including materials management and ERP, in addition to hands-on knowledge of Systems Controls (TQM).

· Education/Certification : BS degree in Business, Engineering, or other related field; Six Sigma or successful Lean experience.

· Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, or another related field


Working Conditions :

  • Standard office environment in Lynnwood, WA
  • Work requires substantial visual concentration on detail
  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment
  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE
  • May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes
  • Travel required up to 25%

Salary range: $172,000 to $214,000. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications.
