JOB DESCRIPTION – DIRECTOR OF EVANGELIZATION & DISCIPLESHIP

SUPERVISED BY: Pastor

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time; Salary

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Evangelization & Discipleship is a member of the parish team who shares responsibility for the pastoral care and the lifelong faith formation of the parishioners within the overall parish mission. In collaboration with the pastor and other staff members, he or she will provide assistance in the planning and implementation of ministries and sacramental actions within the daily activities of the parish.

Description of Duties
The Director of Evangelization & Discipleship is the Coordinator of Religious Education and Faith Formation. He or she manages program content & schedules, recruits and trains volunteers, develops and manages budgets, and coordinates with other parish ministries and activities. In addition, the Director of Evangelization & Discipleship shall:

1. Articulate a vision of catechesis and the catechetical process based on the major catechetical documents of the Church.
2. Review, evaluate, and develop programs, long- and short-range goals and objectives.
3. Help the parish community evaluate and carry out its role as a catechizing agent.
4. Apply appropriate principles of human development, especially faith and moral development, to a catechetical program.
5. Utilize appropriate methodologies of adult-centered and/or child-centered learning.
6. Implement a program of catechist formation according to Archdiocesan certification norms.
7. Involve the family as an essential agent in the faith formation process, especially in the faith formation of children and adolescents.
8. Use media and technology for effective program implementation.
9. Incorporate service opportunities, and reflections on these experiences, in catechetical programs for adults, adolescents, and children; especially linking such opportunities to the fostering of peace and justice.
10. Provide opportunities for participation in prayer, personal spiritual development and communal worship.
11. Initiate and maintain accurate records on students, families, catechists, and other participants.
12. Adhere to all Youth Ministry Guidelines, as determined by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

Program Responsibilities

1. Adult Faith Formation
a. Coordinate the Faith Formation Commission or other advisory group that is focused on Youth and Adult Faith Formation.
b. Select, plan, and administer Adult Faith Formation programs/activities each year. Programs may include but are not limited to Bible/Book Study, Parish Retreat, Speakers, Missions, Pilgrimages, & Service Opportunities.
c. Select Adult Faith Formation Materials & Curriculum, including but not limited to books, pamphlets, programs, & videos that may be utilized in formal catechesis of adults or for personal spiritual development and faith formation. d. Coordinate the Liturgical Ministry Schedule, ensuring liturgical ministers are scheduled and trained
e. Promote Adult Faith Formation Opportunities outside of St. Michael & St. Francis Xavier, including but not limited to ArchIndy, Mount Saint Francis, Catalyst Catholic, and other Deanery Parishes. f. Communicate upcoming activities using Bulletin, website, Facebook, print materials, and any other means available.

2. Parish Religious Education Program (PREP - Grades K-5)
a. Select or develop program/curriculum and secure all materials needed for classroom instruction b. Create Class Schedules
c. Recruit, train, and supervise catechists, ensuring all catechists are Safe Parish certified. d. Serve as a Catechist as needed.
e. Coordinate registration process and maintain accurate records of registrations and attendance
f. Teach Circle of Grace each year.
g. Communicate regularly with parents, the Pastor, and the parish using Bulletin, website, Facebook, print materials, and any other means available.

3. Vacation Bible School (VBS)
a. Select or develop program and secure all materials & supplies b. Coordinate VBS Sponsorship Program
c. Recruit, train, and supervise adult and youth volunteers, ensuring all adult volunteers are Safe Parish certified. d. Coordinate registration process and maintain accurate records of registrations and attendance
e. Facilitate the VBS ministry.

4. Middle/High School Ministry
The Director of Evangelization and Discipleship is the Youth Minister, responsible for the following: a. Select or develop program and secure all materials & supplies
b. Create Middle/High School Ministry Meeting Schedule
c. Ensure regular opportunities for prayer & spiritual development, catechesis, & service d. Recruit, train, and supervise Middle/High School Ministry Volunteers, ensuring all volunteers are Safe Parish certified.
e. Coordinate registration process and maintain accurate records of registrations and attendance f. Ensure Circle of Grace is taught each year.
g. Attend networking meetings with Catalyst Catholic
h. Represent St. Michael and St. Francis Xavier at Deanery events, retreats, and other activities, as determined by the pastor i. Communicate with youth & parents about upcoming activities using Bulletin, website, Facebook, and any other means available

5. Sacrament Preparation & Records a. Baptism
■ Select or develop program for Baptismal Prep
■ Offer Baptismal Prep classes, as needed.
■ Recruit, train, and supervise Baptismal Prep Volunteers
■ Maintain registration process, records of attendance in preparation program, & accurate sacrament records

b. First Reconciliation
■ Select or develop program for First Reconciliation Prep
■ Create class schedule & requirements
■ Recruit, train, and supervise First Reconciliation Prep Volunteers
■ Maintain registration process & records of attendance in preparation program

c. First Communion
■ Select or develop program for First Communion Prep
■ Create class schedule & requirements
■ Recruit, train, and supervise First Communion Prep Volunteers
■ Maintain registration process, records of attendance in preparation program, & accurate sacrament records
■ Verify dates for First Communion practice & Mass
■ Facilitate First Communion practice & Mass

d. Confirmation
■ Serve as the Catechist for Confirmation Preparation
■ Select or develop program for Confirmation Prep
■ Create class schedule & requirements
■ Recruit, train, and supervise Confirmation Prep Volunteers
■ Maintain registration process, records of attendance in preparation program, & accurate sacrament records
■ Verify dates and location for Confirmation Mass

e. Matrimony
■ Coordinate with Pastor to create meeting schedule & requirements
■ Maintain registration process, records of attendance in preparation program, & accurate sacrament records
■ Coordinate with Catalyst Catholic on PreCana Retreats/Workshops
■ Coordinate with Pastor and Parish Secretary on all aspects of Matrimony Preparation

f. RCIA/RCIC
■ Serve as the Catechist for RCIA
■ Select or develop program for RCIA/RCIC Prep
■ Create class schedule & requirements
■ Recruit, train, and supervise RCIA/RCIC Prep Volunteers
■ Maintain registration process, records of attendance in preparation program, & accurate sacrament records
■ Assist pastor with all aspects of RCIA/RCIC Initiation

Reports & Staff Participation
● Attend each of the 4 weekend Masses at least once per month.
● Monitor and respond to emails sent to religioused@northclarkcountycatholic.org.
● Write & present reports for Supervisor, Parish Council, & Finance Council, upon request
● Attend Staff Meetings
● Attend training, retreats, conferences (Campfrence, Bosco Conference, etc.), and other opportunities for spiritual and professional development, as determined by the Pastor.
● Participate in the Parish Staff Retreat (typically scheduled at the beginning of Lent each year)
● Participate in additional Staff actives as designated by Supervisor

Qualifications
● Practicing Roman Catholic with a commitment to his/her own faith life, in good standing with the church
● Knowledge of Scripture, the Catechism, & Church documents
● Experienced in teaching the faith to adults, youth, and children
● Able to communicate with all age groups, from varying cultural and social backgrounds
● Skilled organizer and overseer of programs that incorporate volunteers
● Preference given to applicants with a Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Catechesis, Theology, or a related field
● Preference given to bilingual applicants (English & Spanish)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28,000.00 - $33,000.00 per year
