Directs, manages, supervises advanced predictive analytics through visualization, data modeling, forecasting, simulation, and data analytics taken from complex, high-volume, and high-dimensional datasets. Develops and executes architectures, policies, practices, and procedures to manage the information lifecycle needs of an organization in an effective manner and examines organization’s data with the purpose of drawing conclusions about that information. Leads the development, validation and delivery of advanced analytics, and complex statistical models and reporting tools to support Carilion Clinic.


  • Works directly with the CMIO and other health analytics and system leaders to develop the foundation for a data science program. Directs functional strategy and the operational direction of the department.
  • Partners with leadership with defining organizational goals and strategic plans. Extracts knowledge and insights from data to investigate complex business problems through a range of data preparation, modeling, analysis and/or visualization techniques, including predictive analysis, business intelligence, pattern recognition, operational effectiveness and/or economic forecasting. Provides input and direction into the continued development of comprehensive and standardized approach to advanced analytics governance include machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Builds, leads, and develops team of data scientists in the acquisition, manipulation, and presentation of data through artificial intelligence, data mining, machine learning, advanced algorithms, statistical modeling, and/or mathematical methods. Owns the delivery of multiple large and/or complex data science projects. Achieves goals that have critical impact on success of functional area and organization. Directs complex data research and analysis to support business operations. Creates data mining architectures/models/protocols, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies to identify trends in large data sets.
  • Provides strategic thought leadership and partner with clinical and operational areas to deliver collaborative work products that align with divisional and enterprise strategy. Presents meaningful data insights and predictions to executive and management teams, assist in strategy development, and guides the expansion of business opportunities.
  • Develops architectures, policies, practices, and procedures to manage the information lifecycle needs of an organization in an effective manner and examines organization’s data with the purpose of drawing conclusions about that information. Leads requirements gathering sessions with business and technical staff to distill technical requirement from business requests for the development of advanced analytics projects
  • Leads all health analytics and informatics activities for on-time, on-budget outcomes. Leads the work of functional area in absence of senior leader
  • Works closely with all teams within Health Analytics and TSG to collaborate on project related to data analytics including defining and assisting in the implementation of integrated data models, and the integration of data from multiple sources.
  • Directs the design and development of models to understand and solve multiple complex business solutions using a variety of methods including data mining, statistical analysis, predictive modeling and analysis, stochastic modeling, pattern recognition, probability analysis, and network analysis. Analysis may be applied to various areas of the business conduct scientific research projects with the goal of breaking new ground in data analytics


What We Require:


Education:
Master’s degree in a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 10 years experience in healthcare analytics or a related field. Requires experience using highest knowledge of technical skills, management, and problem-solving abilities.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Valid Virginia Driver’s License and dependable transportation.

Other Minimum Qualifications:

  • SQL programming skills (Advance to Expert SQL programming skills)
  • Experience with design and implementation of analytic models and methodologies for new applications
  • Programming experience in Python, R or other related programming language
  • Expert experience working with large and complex data sets
  • Expert knowledge of machine learning, statistics, optimization, or related field
  • Data analysis techniques (e.g., A/B testing, association rule learning, cluster analysis, pattern recognition and predictive modeling)
  • Data analysis and visualization software (e.g., Domo, Looker, PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Object-oriented programming languages (Java, Python, R, Ruby, Scala, C++) and/or data engineering skills (relational or NoSQL databases, ETL tools).
