In the Development Services team, our efforts guide the creation and thoughtful positioning of memorable and unique design solutions that reflect the Montage and Pendry brand philosophies and exceed our guests’ and residents’ expectations. We provide the knowledge, support, and resources to guide our hotel and residential properties in upholding our uniformly high brand guidelines.
The Director, Development Services will report to a Vice President, Development Services in supporting our owners/developers with collaboration and oversight of project and consultant teams. The Development Services required for each project may vary by the unique circumstances of the project, including whether the project is a new build, conversion, or capital improvement project for an existing MI property. In general, however, the scope of the Director’s services should include support of the development process from the pre-design or PIP phase through hotel or resort opening while liaising with internal MI operations stakeholders to confirm that their requirements are met and that there is strong internal alignment and communication amongst all MI stakeholders (including Design, Operations, Brand, Acquisitions & Development).
Development services strives to assist owner/developer’s project budgeting and scheduling efforts; assistance with consultant organization; design input, collaboration, coordination, and review, particularly to ensure compliance with Montage and Pendry brand guidelines; construction execution support; commissioning, handover and pre-opening support, etc. Under the guidance of the Vice President the Director will help to ensure adherence to the MI Design Guidelines and help usher each MI project to completion with strong communication, effective collaboration as well as adherence to robust process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist the Vice President, Development Services in their collaboration with MI’s Design team to ensure the successful transition of the project through the design process from design documents through construction and final turnover.
    • Learn the MI Design Guidelines.
    • Ensure MI’s Design & Construction Guidelines are upheld by assisting in a detailed review of Design Documentation at all project stages.
    • Help facilitate cross-functional team reviews, ensuring all disciplines have signed-off on final documentation before construction / fabrication commences.
    • Support the Vice President in tapping diverse sources of information, identifying profitability opportunities, anticipating risks and challenges, devising, and executing breakthrough strategies, and strengthening MI’s competitive advantage in architecture, interior design, project specifications, and construction management.
    • Assist Owner, consultant team, and MI Design with all Model Room design, procurement, construction, and formal review activities including communication and alignment of internal resources during the process.
    • Understand and compare project budgets, including but not limited to: Soft Costs, Construction Costs, FF&E, OS&E, Reimbursable.
    • Support design team in review of FF&E specifications and related shop drawings, as well as attending prototype reviews, and preparation of FF&E review notes.
    • Assist in preparation of design direction documents for interior designer or Ownership use (i.e. art, signage, lighting, overall design narrative documents for new developments and renovations)
    • Assist in creation and maintenance of preferred Mexican FF&E / IA material / fabricator / procurement agent library, including production location, contact, relevant projects and assessment of overall performance.
  • Maintain open and trusted lines of communication to ensure efficient, complete, and consistent flow of information to create strong internal alignment.
    • Participate in regular project status calls and capture collective team notes and comments and follow up on items as required for Operator and Ownership review/record.
    • Maintain internal project schedules, anticipating and tracking and review of construction documents. Ideally this would involve identifying any MI review conflicts with Design colleagues.
    • Share best practices and lessons learned to promote continuous product and process improvement.
    • Coordinate with the Residential team to ensure that appropriate marketing materials (renderings) are requested and provided to support the sales process.
  • Support the Construction Documentation and construction phases:
    • Support Vice President in ensuring Construction Documents accurately capture the Design Development progress, model room review, and all agreed MI notes and commentary associated with both.
    • Help to coordinate construction turnover activities. Monitor MI turnover schedule so that Vice President may communicate with Owner/Developer, Contractor teams and MI Operations to accurately forecast opening and adherence to MI turnover schedule.
    • Review RFI, material submittals/shop drawings, and change order requests.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Product Design, Hospitality Management, or related field required.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously in a complex, service intensive, deadline driven environment.
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience required.
  • Experience in Mexican luxury hospitality, residential, retail, design and real estate preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivated.
  • Must be able to read and redline as set of design and construction drawings through all phases of design.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and design programs, including Bluebeam.
  • Strong attention to detail, with an eye for luxury product, and an ability to value engineer without compromising design intent or quality.
  • Aptitude and desire to learn new technologies as required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage, prioritize, and successfully execute multiple cross-functional projects concurrently.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-centric environment. Collaborative and able to build & maintain strong working relationships.
  • As required, travel for site support, which may include evening and weekend work, to be evaluated on a case- by-case / project need basis.
  • Ability to travel 25 - 75% or more depending on location and intensity of projects.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Most work tasks are performed indoors. Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours per day. Walking and standing are required the rest of the working day. This may include traveling to and from meetings, as well as travel to properties for on-site installation support as required.
The pay scale for the Director, Development Services is 120,000.00 to 135,000.00 . The pay scale is the base salary or hourly wage range, exclusive of incentive pay such as commissions, piece rates, gratuities, and the like, that Montage reasonably expects to pay for the position.
