Current Need:

We are seeking a Director to head our Data Systems & Transformation team, as a part of the broader Data & Advanced Analytics group within McKesson Medical-Surgical.

Position Description

The Director of Data Systems & Transformation at McKesson Medical-Surgical will lead strategy as well as the design, development, and deployment of data systems at scale across a multi-cloud infrastructure for current and future capabilities.

McKesson’s Director of Data Systems & Transformation will lead Data Systems, Data Acquisition Operations, as well as the industrialization of Data Transfer within the organization. This leader will partner closely with data science and advanced analytics teams, both within the centralized group as well as those embedded in business, to help build data connectivity and acquisition at scale. We are looking for a candidate that is passionate about building advanced architecture across diverse platforms, discovering the art of the possible, and is excited to create new discoveries in retrieving data while using a best-in-class tech stack. The ideal candidate is naturally curious and possesses an intuition on how to best add value using reasonable scale.

This role will define and develop our system capabilities through exploration, creativity, and determination. This team will work in collaboration with other business units and McKesson Technology to bring value to McKesson and the healthcare ecosystem, as well as better outcomes for patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, scale, deploy, and manage data infrastructure solutions in a multi-cloud environment to provide robust end-to-end solutions fast that further McKesson’s mission to improve care in every setting.
  • Lead the strategy, design, and delivery of best-in-class data acquisition, leveraging advanced techniques.
  • Ensure timeliness and quality of data, that is robust both in terms of architecture as well as useability for insights and machine learning.
  • Communicate strategy and results to technical and non-technical audiences; Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and internal clients.
  • Conduct weekly methodology reviews; Utilize industry and technical resources to continuously learn, innovate, and contribute to a growing knowledge base of best practices.
  • Understand the importance of "reasonable scale"; balance functional vs non-functional requirements, differentiate between production vs. at-scale; focus on system level optimization; ensure no bottlenecks, size systems correctly, possess awareness of resource consumption and efficiency.
  • Understand McKesson’s complex and diverse data environment to design data strategy for use in sales growth, driving cost efficiencies, enabling a data-driven culture, and monetizing data & analytic solutions; Analyze complex data including but not limited to health, business transaction, and supply chain datasets.
  • Solve problems from the business point of view, build and execute solid analytics work plans, gather, and organize large and complex data assets, perform relevant analyses (data exploration), automate work streams, foster teamwork in interactions, develop client relationships with business stakeholders, and communicate results in a structured way.

Minimum Requirements:
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in data science and/or data system design & governance with a proven record around delivery
  • Masters or PhD in relevant field
  • Management of industry end-to-end cloud infrastructure with proven record of delivery
  • Experience in creating and leading API and web scraping to grow & scale data acquisition with proven record of delivery

Critical Skills:
  • Strong management experience with data scientists/engineers in business or scientific research settings
  • Experience with data pipelines, streaming architecture, data engineering, creating feature stores, processing unstructured and structured data at scale
  • Expert experience in one or more programming languages, Python plus Java, C/C++
  • Expert experience with DevOps, CI/CD/CT, scalable deployment (e.g. MLFlow, Kubeflow, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Expert experience with cloud computing in Azure or GCP
  • Experience with distributed computing: (e.g. Databricks, Apache Spark, Hadoop...)

Additional Knowledge & Skills:
  • Industry experience in Healthcare or Supply Chain, including project and/or budget management
  • Experience in core data science and predictive analytics methods
  • Experience with Linux, shell scripting, Snowflake Data Cloud, data visualization tool: e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Google Looker

As part of Total Rewards, we are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson. This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$132,700 - $221,100
