Overview

Responsible for developing, implementing, training and managing the approved health and safety policies and procedures for all Saddle Creek Logistics Services. This role will be responsible for the review and reporting on the performance of the safety KPIs throughout the organization; recommending of improvements where necessary to maintain a safe and healthy work environment and ensuring that associates are properly trained regarding emergency preparedness, use of protective equipment and proper standards relevant to occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) standards. This position will report to the Senior Director of Risk Management.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and maintain compliance to all company safety policies and procedures; as well as federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Manage the Saddle Creek’s Safety Team to ensure that all safety and environmental audit programs are completed on time, in accordance with company policies and within cultural boundaries.
  • Manage the Safety Policy Manual and all related processes, including developing and implementing new company approved safety policies and procedures.
  • Lead the Saddle Creek’s Safety Team when interacting with Local, State and Federal agencies to assure compliance with all laws pertaining to safety, health and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with facility leadership to strengthen awareness of safety trends and opportunities through relevant and timely information sharing.
  • Identify, develop and recommend improvement strategies utilizing data analytics and develop implementation protocols where appropriate.
  • Develop training curriculums and ensure required training is administered and documented.
  • Provide analytical support and subject matter expertise for special projects, new business opportunities, and management requests.
  • Organize, train and lead the members of the Safety Council to increase all company associates awareness of safety protocols to improve location and overall company performance.
  • Lead all investigations dealing with serious injury or loss and report findings.
  • Manage investigations of work related illness/injuries and company accidents to determine the “root cause” and make necessary recommendations for any corrective actions or process improvements.
  • Develop, deliver and discuss performance of safety metrics with senior leadership and facility management.
  • Monitor permits, licenses, and registrations with city, county, state, and federal regulatory agencies, that relate to worker safety to ensure compliance and on time submittal or renewal.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance for all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to our industry, company and associates.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Science or Engineering is required. Industrial Safety or Industrial Hygienist degree is preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience within safety and compliance, preferably in a distribution environment
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience managing safety professionals is also required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to travel up to 60%
  • Strong understanding of warehousing safety within a multi-unit 3PL environment
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence diverse management teams within the organization
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, FDA, EPA and Hazardous Material storage/shipping standards
  • Must interact professionally with all associates, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s safety programs.
  • Must be a self-starter and continuously strive for improvement
  • Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously with a hands-on approach in a fast pace environment
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Possess excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Technical writing experience for policies and procedures

Preferred

  • Safety certifications of Certified Safety Professional (CSP); Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH); Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM); or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Green Belt LEAN certification with demonstrated application of those principles in previous employment.
