Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
The Director of Counseling and Accessibility Services provides direction and leadership for the day-to-day operations of the office, including supervision and evaluation of two staff therapists. Through initial intake assessments, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, triage to unscheduled walk-in students, and referrals to appropriate services, the director will provide short-term, solution-focused support to help facilitate the personal growth and development of USCB students. In addition, the director provides support to students with disabilities and will ensure that the federal Americans with Disability Act (ADA), applicable sections of the Rehabilitation Act, and other appropriate state and federal laws and statues pertaining to higher education and disability are followed. The director is responsible for developing, reviewing, and revising office policies and guidelines as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a mental health discipline (psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field), licensed or eligible to obtain a license as a mental health professional in the state of South Carolina within one year of hire, a minimum of five years counseling experience.

Preferred Qualifications
A terminal degree in counseling, psychology, social work or a related field and counseling experience in a college/university setting preferred. Prefer licensure to counsel without additional supervision in South Carolina. Experience supervising therapists. Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds. Strong record of operational, administrative and management experience in counseling/mental health services.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of current psychological theory and best practices in college counseling services. Knowledge of psychological evaluation and assessment techniques. Experience participating
as a team member in a crisis management system for students with psychological/emotional disturbances. Ability to develop, implement and evaluate clinical psychological programs. Ability to supervise, train and evaluate professional staff members. Ability to communicate effectively with clients, program directors, faculty/staff, and outside agencies. Familiarity with the changing demographics and counseling needs of current and future students. Skilled in consultation, brief therapy models, group therapy, and in providing innovative and inclusive outreach programming. Knowledgeable about issues involving stalking, dating violence, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Strong interpersonal skills, including intercultural sensitivity.
