Job Summary
Position responsible for a strategic and pragmatic advisory role to the various Sterile Processing and Operating room leaders. As content experts, the SPD Regional Directors will utilize their extensive industry knowledge, experience and analytical skills to identify and provide recommendations to challenges that prevent future growth, ensure deliverance of quality products, help to determine the needs at campuses, and create pathways of communication system wide. Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Health Science or related field, master's degree preferred

Licenses/Certifications:
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)or
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or
  • CNOR preferred.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
  • 10 years of experience involving sterilization of instruments, equipment and supplies or equivalent time as a Registered Nurse in an operating room, or relevant experience in an operating room.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive management experience required. Experience leading multiple teams or locations preferred.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Establishes, implements and administers policies and procedures as it pertains to the Sterile Processing departments system wide.
  • Conducts ongoing review of System Sterile Processing policies, procedures and guidelines; implements revisions as necessary.
  • Reviews and further develops required standards of such governing bodies as AORN, AAMI, FDA, AIC and JCAHO and incorporates standards into departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains appropriate Quality Assurance data and statistics.
  • Collaborates and supports OR leadership to ensure regulatory compliance with standards while establishing workflow for OR case carts and sterile trays.
  • Gathers data, and develops Quality dashboards pertinent to the Sterile Processing department and/or Operating Room.
  • Attends various standing committees at assigned facilities reporting on quality dashboards and other reports as necessary.
  • Collaborates with OR leadership, in providing strategic guidance with acquisition of instrumentation to reduce IUSS and SSI rates.
  • Collaborates as a group in standardization of products utilized in the Sterile Processing departments system wide.
  • Collaborates with SPD managers in conducting monthly meetings to discuss best practice and to collect approval of processes and standardization to present to OR council and other appropriate committees for final approval and implementation.
  • Conduct monthly mock inspections of various facilities to ensure compliance with JC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, AORN, CMS and other county, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Works in tandem with Infection Prevention department in conducting bi-annual rounds system wide.
  • Creates and distributes findings from inspections to Sterile Processing leaders, Operating Room leaders, and Chief Operating officers/executives.
  • Provides recommendations to resolve findings to facility leadership.
  • Reviews system wide capital needs and develops a strategic replacement capital planning report in collaboration with facility leadership.
  • Actively sits on construction/expansion meetings at the various facilities to provide regulatory and strategic recommendations to the design and layout as it pertains to the Sterile Processing department.
  • Collaborates with facility leadership with service line growth and onboarding of physicians.
  • Establishes, implements and administers a system wide Sterile Processing Technician of the quarter/year to recognize excellence and quality.
  • Creates criteria for a SPD technician recognition program, manages the process, orchestrates the notification process, organizes the events and secures funding to reward the technician(s) selected to attend the nationally recognized annual meetings held by the certification board.
  • Establishes, implements and administers Sterile Processing department newsletter system wide.
  • Attends industry specific conferences and educational programs on an ongoing basis (AAMI, IAHCSMM, AORN, CCSA).
  • Establishes system wide training programs for the Sterile Processing departments to ensure continued ongoing training is being performed at a facility level.
  • Collaborates with local community colleges in the development and administration of Sterile Processing programs.
  • Oversees regional regulatory compliance, departmental contracts, and vendor relations.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
