DEFINITION
Manage economic attraction and retention efforts to attract and retain businesses in the rapidly growing City of Brighton. Act as the liaison for business owners, property owners, brokers and real estate developers to support site selection and economic development projects. Create a marketing plan strategy to attract businesses and investors to the City of Brighton and Brighton Economic Development Corporation. Research and maintain demographic data and industry related information for strategic planning, marketing, and reports. Support business retention and expansion efforts by building relationships with primary employers and providing support services and access to resources. Actively promote the City of Brighton and Brighton Economic Development Corporation regionally, to create awareness and inroads for future economic development opportunities. This position must work well independently and with teams, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton's mission and values.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
This position will report directly to the Director of Economic Development (Brighton Economic Development Corporation President and CEO). This position acts on behalf of the Economic Development Corporation President and CEO/Director of Economic Development in his/her absence. Will work closely with the Brighton Economic Development boards respectively.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
In coordination with the Director, provides, oversight, leadership and facilitation of all aspects of the Economic Development strategy including meaningful input to Business Attraction (Primary employers and retail); Business Retention and Expansion, and communication/coordination with the 501-C-6 Economic Development Organization*.

Leads the coordination of attraction projects to assist in the development process, permits and applications, public hearings and approvals needed for development.

Acts as key contact for economic development prospects and clients for prospect visits, briefings, tours and itineraries.

Fosters relationships with the real estate development community, property owners, businesses, appraisers, attorneys, city staff and other key stakeholders at the direction of the Executive Director.

Evaluates, negotiates and proposes business incentive requests.

Actively seeks participation in regional meetings and functions to advocate for Economic Development in general, and to promote the Brighton EDC and the City of Brighton on projects within the region.
Helps identify target industries and their suppliers for both business attraction and retention purposes.

Builds and maintains strong alliances with existing business through regular contact, one-on-one visits, group meetings, e-newsletters, special events, attendance at networking events and other means.

Assists current and expanding businesses with planning, zoning, regulatory, financing and other business questions.

Responds promptly to business needs so companies remain competitive and profitable in the community.

Interacts with company executives, public leaders and peers.

Act as liaison regarding matters related to the Brighton Economic Development Corporation with local, regional and State economic departments or organizations.

Uses demographic and statistical databases and contributes to the development and maintenance of local business and property inventories.

Evaluates local industry needs and business climate information, makes recommendations for improvement and facilitates implementation of strategies.

Ensures economic development activities comply with the City goals, policies and procedures, and federal, state and local regulations.

Prepares monthly, annual and ad hoc reports.

Assists EDC team with event planning and hosting, investor recruitment, marketing and other duties as assigned.

May be required to travel and/or work outside of business hours to attend industry-related meetings, events, business functions, and educational and community programs when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Policies & procedures, goals, mission, values and vision of the City of Brighton and Brighton Economic Development Corporation.

City of Brighton staff at all levels of the organization, other government officials, citizens and professional associates.

Current trends and developments in the field of economic development / commercial real estate development.

Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment. Ability to:
Understand land development-related regulations.

Listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Establish priorities for work assignments and complete duties in a timely manner while meeting deadlines.

Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, regarding complex issues, including presentations to large audiences, correspondences to boards, groups and committees.

Quickly gather information and make appropriate decisions.

Handle multiple tasks while working with both groups and individuals. Interact well with others. Work as part of a team and independently.
Assist with the design of marketing and public relations programs. Think creatively and take initiative on projects.
Use computer software and other tools to assemble, organize and present ideas and statistical information in oral or written form.

Act as a team player, excellent customer relations and service skills, a professional and positive attitude, organization and dependability.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities, such as a minimum of 3-4 years' experience in
economic development, redevelopment, commercial real estate, or sales and marketing preferred. Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
Master's degree in related fields preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to perform moderate physical work, and to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, sit, ride, climb, reach, grasp and perform similar body movement. Possesses hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to operate office equipment including a computer keyboard and in some cases, operate a vehicle. Ability to talk and hear in person and by telephone. Ability to see and read instructions, journals, charts, and characters on a computer screen. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, walk, stand, twist, talk, hear, see, demonstrate manual dexterity, and perform light lifting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) Preferred
Preferred Bilingual English/Spanish is highly desirable.
Possession of valid, Colorado driver's license with good driving record.
Completion/Documentation of FEMA ICS-100, ICS-700
