Description

The Professional Development Coordinator reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Professional Development Coordinator adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of practice for Nursing Professional Development.

Responsibilities:

  • Onboarding, Orientation, Education and Competency Management:
    • Design and conduct education/training with instructional design processes and incorporating the principles of adult education and learning.
    • Manage education and training processes/activities to foster learning using strategies that engage learners in critical inquiry, critical thinking, problem solving, and foster the development of competence in learners.
    • Promote a climate of learning that supports Patricia Benner’s “Novice to Expert” model, starting in the orientation period and continuing throughout a person’s development.
    • Assist in the CE application process and serves in the role of site nurse planner for CE Approval.
    • Promote a positive climate and provide resources for learning that facilitate the life-long adult learning process.
    • Assist in the development of unit/service line/area-based competency requirements for nurses and patient care technicians.
    • Facilitates on-unit education and training in patient care areas.
  • Professional Role Development:
    • Serve as a clinical mentor and role model for the service line based Education Coordinators.
    • Support the role transition, role integration, skill acquisition and mastery as learners advance from novice to expert in their professions and specialties.
    • Support and promote specialty certification preparation.
  • Collaborative Partnerships:
    • Serve as a resource to Patient Care Nurse Managers/Patient Care Managers and Education Coordinators in defining education and performance needs, identifying available internal and external education resources and selecting appropriate educational and performance improvement options.
    • Support patient care operations if needed and as directed by the OPPD
    • Within collaborative partnerships; may teach, coordinate, serve as a liaison, and advise others concerning education and learning.
  • Research, Evidence Based Practice, and Quality Improvement:
    • Use current research and evidence-based practice results to design, create, apply, and evaluate knowledge, theories, and creative approaches and integrate relevant research outcomes into health care practice using effective learning strategies.
    • Conduct formative and summative evaluations to provide feedback to individuals and the organization related to the effectiveness of education and performance activities in achieving learning and performance goals and evaluating outcomes.
    • Contributes to interprofessional practice by supporting, conducting, and synthesizing research and evidence-based practice.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current Illinois RN license.
  • BLS Certification
  • BSN
  • Professional Nursing Certification
  • Five years clinical experience and/or previous clinical teaching experience.
  • Competent in oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Possesses basic competency in computer skills.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or Education. Will consider candidates currently enrolled in Master's program.
  • Certification in Nursing Professional Development
