Wilton Historical Society Development Associate

Position Overview: The Development Associate will work with the Director of the Wilton Historical Society to develop and execute fundraising strategies and donor relations initiatives, as well as provide administrative and planning support to the Society’s major fundraising events.

Terms of Employment: Full Time exempt, 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend hours for special events. Reports to the Director of Wilton Historical Society.

Salary: $47,000-$52,000 annual salary

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising

● Work with the Director and designated Board of Trustees committees to develop the fundraising plan and strategy for the fiscal year.

● Identify and pursue sponsorship opportunities from businesses, corporations, charitable foundations, and private individuals.

● Perform donor and prospect identification, research and evaluation, and data management of prospect records.

● Identify appropriate grant opportunities for Society projects and assist in grant applications and final reports. Assist in managing grant expenditures and expenditure tracking.

● Assist the Director in planning the Society’s Annual Appeal, including drafting solicitation materials, refining mailing lists, and creating targeted messaging.

● Work with Society staff and designated Board of Trustees committees to plan and execute major fundraising events. Tasks may include (but not limited to) managing reservations, ticket and item purchases, purchasing supplies, training volunteers, working with Society Administrative Assistant to approve event graphics and signage.

Donor Relations

● Work with the Society’s Office Manager to maintain donor database data integrity and manage updates of demographic information.

● Manage donor recognition methods (i.e., annual report donor lists, public signage, publicity materials).

● Assist in creating donor acknowledgements, including letters, emails, phone calls, etc.

● Along with the WHS Director, plan and execute meetings with major donors to ensure donor satisfaction and retention.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

● 3 years experience in a non-profit development role strongly preferred. Interest in history is a plus.

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Job requires frequent personal interactions with donors and members of the public.

● Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google G-Suite required.

● Strong technology skills and computer literacy.

● Familiarity with donor management software required, knowledge of Little Green Light a plus.

● A sense of humor, and the ability to flow with a fluid, public facing, work environment.

● Highly organized with ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities within organization.

● Ability to work independently and show initiative in identifying additional opportunities outside the immediate scope of a project.
