Dewberry is currently seeking a Designer in support of a variety of residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects. The position will be located in Dewberry's Lanham, MD office. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and qualified individual with a proven track record of design and construction experience in a variety of private and public land development and capital improvement projects in the Washington DC Metro area. Individual will be responsible for leading a small design team in all aspects of design for residential, commercial and industrial site development and capital improvement projects. Additional responsibilities will include reviewing design plans for their and other teams, assisting in the training of entry-level engineers, assisting with development of CAD and Civil3D standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform project design duties in coordination with a team of support staff to develop detailed engineering documents for construction projects.
  • Provide additional detailed engineering and construction experience related to all aspects of design, and by adding project management depth.
  • Review plans for quality control/quality assurance purposes.
  • Assist in setting and enforcing CAD standards, and providing Civil 3D technical support.
  • Deliver projects that meet technical requirements on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate project submittals, facilitate regulatory agency approvals, and obtain construction permits.
  • Manage design for multiple projects, assist department manager with marketing and proposal efforts and project management duties as well as oversee, train and mentor junior/mid-level staff.
  • Work closely with clients and agency staff, including attendance at public and/or construction meetings and also represent the company at other events as needed.

Required Skills & Required Experience:
  • BS degree related field is preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience directly related to design and construction of land development projects in Prince George’s County and the Washington DC Metro area.
  • Strong computer skills utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D, ProjectDox, WSSC ePermitting, eBuilder as well as basic office software is required.
  • Must be experienced in technical design and theory for support of department manager and office manager in planning and design of complex projects.
  • Must have intimate knowledge of local regulatory requirements, including DPIE, SCD, WSSC & MNCPPC, and be able to review construction drawings.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
