I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:
George Washington University’s Computer Science Department has the largest on-campus student population in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The Computer Science faculty are extremely active, both in the classroom as well as grant funded research. These factors create a dynamic operations environment for the administrative staff. A successful candidate for this role must be adaptable, curious, and ready to work hard to successfully manage the volume of work and solve problems as they arise.

The Computer Science Department Operations Assistant provides administrative support to one or more individuals. This position coordinates schedules and maintains calendar(s) for assigned staff, regularly prioritizing and arranging meetings, conferences and appointments. This role also typically monitors and assists with the budget preparation and record keeping, organizes and submits P-card receipts, and anticipates and prepares background materials as needed. The Associate may assist in coordinating room reservations on campus as needed. The Associate oversees the day-to-day administrative and academic operations of the department by providing administrative support to students and faculty.
Current job responsibilities include:
  • Serves as first point of contact for all faculty, students and guests of the Department
  • Processes reimbursements for faculty and students
  • Makes purchases for department needs and research activities as appropriate
  • Manages the department’s course registration process and assists all students seeking registration in a CS course
  • Assists the Graduate and Undergraduate Program Managers with course scheduling
  • Submits work orders as needed
  • Assigns tasks to student employees when possible and appropriate


Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

$18.75 - $24.42 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
