POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: Database and Applications Administrator
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Location: Longview, WA
Opening Date: May 20, 2022
Classification: Full Time
Hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Salary Range: $78,737 To $110,231 (updated) Annually
Closing Date: Open until filled

Position Summary: Provides database, systems, and application administration for all applications that utilize database technologies for the storage and management of information. Ensures the performance, integrity, and security of all databases. Honors and represents the mission, vision, and values of CIT and the IT department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Analyzes, consolidates, and tunes databases for optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Monitors systems and platforms for availability.
  • Gathers input from internal customers and establishes the needs of internal database users; designs or modifies databases considering back-end organization and front-end user accessibility; installs and tests new or modified databases.
  • Evaluates and recommends new database technologies; leads research of new products and add-ons to existing products.
  • Develops and monitors policies and procedures for the maintenance of all CIT production and test databases.
  • Monitors the database environment to ensure the database is meeting performance and standards.
  • Administers backup, clustering, mirroring, replications, and failover as required for all databases.
  • Installs and tests upgrades and patches; implements security and encryption measures to protect the systems and data.
  • Assists with technical support for CIT employees as needed.
  • Assists in the development of the applications budget.
  • Researches and resolves potential risks, weaknesses, and problem areas across applications systems.
  • Keeps abreast of industry trends and new technologies.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of traditional form of government and tribal customs and traditions.
  • Knowledge of MIS and IT database concepts, principles, and practices; computer operations and user environments; and enterprise applications.
  • Knowledge of federal copyright laws as they pertain to the use of computer software.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Windows 10 Professional operating systems, enterprise systems, Microsoft Domain networking, various programming languages or Windows scripting.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to plan, implement, test, and troubleshoot system applications.
  • Ability to design, develop, and implement integrated software systems solutions to organizational requirements.
  • Ability to develop and write systems and applications documentation and guides for users.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on systems and devices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare accurate, complete, and legible reports and present detailed, accurate, and objective oral presentations.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds, employees and officials.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
  • Ability to maintain privileged confidential information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Three years’ experience installing and maintaining database systems.
  • Two years’ experience with MS SQL Server 2012 or higher.
  • A combination of relevant education and related work experience may be considered.
  • Obtain and maintain Microsoft Database Administration Certification in Windows within three months of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license is required when driving vehicles for work-related purposes.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background screening / investigation according to the established requirements below.

  • Federal, state, and/or tribal criminal history and sanction checks including fingerprint verification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally is required to stand, walk, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is generally performed in an indoor office setting. Exposure to dust or allergens may occur. Noise level is moderate to excessive. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common. Travel is required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
