JOB OVERVIEW

The Database Administrator I will collaboratively provide database administration, data system support, and assist with the implementation of emerging database technology. This individual is excited to be developed and mentored on the database disciplines and best practices of the database reliability team. Further, this role is a critical member of the team that is responsible for the installation, implementation, configuration, maintenance, security, integrity, and performance of critical databases and data systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Support Database Cloud Infrastructure in Azure & AWS using industry standard deployment tools.
  • Collaborate on the migration of on-prem databases to new cloud architecture in Azure/AWS.
  • Learn to leverage monitoring and alerting tools like New Relic, SolarWinds DPA, Azure Monitor, or AWS CloudWatch for proactive support.
  • Leverage scripting and automation everywhere possible.
  • Support Databases like SQL, PostgreSQL and CockroachDB.
  • Participate in database administration team’s daily operations.
  • Help with the design, implementation, and maintenance of SQL Server and Postgres databases.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database performance and scaling issues.
  • Continuously ensure database security.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical database-related issues.
  • Stay up to date with current industry trends and technology.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSc. in Computer Science or related technology field.
  • 1+ years of experience designing, implementing, managing, and supporting enterprise databases and data systems, including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and CockroachDB.
  • 1+ years of experience managing and supporting data systems on Red Hat Linux (or similar distro) and/or Unix.
  • 1+ years of experience managing databases and data systems in Azure and/or AWS.
  • 1+ years of experience with using automation and scripting in languages such as PowerShell, Perl, Python or Bash.

REQUIRED CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Atlassian Tools (e.g., Jira, Jira Work Plans, Confluence, Ops Genie. Status Page).
  • Working knowledge of Azure Managed Instance and AWS RDS.
  • Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft TSQL and PostgreSQL PSQL languages.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, PERL, etc.).
  • Monitoring tools such as SolarWinds DPA, Red Gate SQL Monitor, and New Relic. (preferred)
  • Ability to optimizing large, complicated SQL statements. (preferred)
  • ITIL IT Service Management framework. (preferred)
