The Enterprise Data & Analytics Team at Nautilus ensures that data collected across the organization is designed and optimized for Analytics, AI/ML, and Business Intelligence. The Data Engineer is responsible for building, maintaining, and improving the data infrastructure that powers analytics and enables our Analyst community. To be successful, the Data Engineer must also possess strong business acumen and communication skills to build self-service, intuitive data products with direct input from stakeholders in Product, Finance and Marketing. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in learning more about applied business analytics, and how to create Data Products that deliver exceptional business value.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translating stakeholder and business needs into technical requirements. This includes balancing system health, performance requirements, and technical debt with stakeholder requests.
  • Creating dimensional tables and views in the Data Lake (Databricks), optimized to support Power BI Datasets in addition to API Services
  • Building pipelines for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from various data sources including MySQL, Oracle, JSON, CSV
  • Implementing tools and methodologies to improve data reliability and quality
  • Analyzing large, complex sets of data to deliver meaningful and accurate reporting
  • Identifying and developing internal process improvements optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, TOOLS, and LANGUAGES

TOOLS:

  • Databricks (on AWS or Azure)
  • PowerBI
  • GitHub (or a similar source control tool)

LANGUAGES:

  • Expert or Advanced: SQL, Python
  • Beginner or Intermediate: Scala

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Work and educational background in data engineering, data science, data architecture, data warehousing or a related area.
  • Experience using RESTful APIs to enable data consumption.
  • Experience working in a public cloud environment, particularly AWS.
  • Data design expertise (including ERD/ schema design).
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum Development philosophies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, TOOLS, and LANGUAGES

TOOLS:

  • Databricks
  • AWS
  • Amplitude, Adobe Analytics, Braze &/or Qualtrics
  • Enterprise machine learning tools, such as Google Cloud AutoML, Azure Machine Learning, DataRobot, or Amazon Machine Learning

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Experience in translating complex Analytical requirements into a Data Strategy
  • Experience defining Product, Customer, Marketing &/or Financial Analytical Strategy

Education & Knowledge

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics
  • Knowledge of relational databases and Cloud data/analytical environments
  • Background in process improvement, Data Profiling and Data Quality
  • Familiarity of APIs including knowledge of XML, JSON, REST, SOAP, etc.
  • Scripting/programming: Python, SQL
  • 3-5 years of experience

Preferred

  • MBA or MS in Analytics, Engineering or Computer Science strongly preferred
  • Prior experience supporting larger data quality + enablement initiatives
The pay range for this role is $67K to $97K which takes into account factors such as candidate experience, skills, training, internal team equity and local norms.
