Data Analyst
The George Mason University College of Public Health (CPH) invites applications for the position of Data Analyst. The Data Analyst will report to the Executive Director of Finance and Administration and will work with the Administrators of the College to aid in data management related to assessments for curriculum, budget, student enrollment, and research initiatives. Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a calendar of regular data requests and reports to share with College stakeholders, including:
    • Accreditation reporting requirements;
    • Faculty publication, funding, and workload reports;
    • Academic advising assessment reports;
    • Student engagement data (participation in undergraduate research, study abroad, internships);
    • Undergraduate and Graduate student enrollment/retention reports; and
    • Alumni reports (percentage employed, types of roles, rates of giving).
  • Identify data needs and produce reports, dashboards, and other data visualizations to be used in planning, analysis, and marketing;
  • College of Public Health (CPH) data relative to recruitment and retention of diverse faculty;
  • Develop and evaluate forecasting models that consider historical trends in student enrollment and retention, strategic goals, future job market demands, and budget implications;
  • Support the Dean, Associate Deans, and Executive Director with data needs in the development of college and department-level metrics such as enrollment targets and tuition dollars;
  • Assess college data reporting processes and ensure college metrics are consistent with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (OIEP);
  • Assist in strategic planning, including defining objectives, implementation of activities to reach targets, and reporting;
  • Liaise with various administrators and faculty involved in data management and assessment on campus, including staff in OIEP and Enrollment Management;
  • Analyze data using statistical software to generate descriptive statistics, statistical models, and graphics;
  • Prepare tables and quality graphics for inclusion in college reports, presentations, and grant applications;
  • Communicate complex data trends and statistical results to Public Health leadership team, faculty, and staff;
  • Create reports for the dissemination and management of information;
  • Communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders; and
  • Assist with various reports as needed.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment and evaluation;
  • Broad-based knowledge of higher education and accreditation reporting;
  • Knowledge of statistical software and modeling techniques (e.g., R, SAS, Stata, SPSS, Excel);
  • Skill in effective written and verbal communication;
  • High proficiency in utilizing MS Excel and PowerPoint for data analysis and presentations;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and complete projects independently;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and details simultaneously;
  • Ability to work independently and accomplish assignments on deadline; and
  • Proven ability to perform in-depth data analysis and present insights in a clear manner.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with health-based accreditation organizations and requirements (CEPH, CCNE, ACEN, CSWE, CAHME, CAHI, AUPHA);
  • Demonstrated knowledge of conducting assessment in a university environment;
  • Demonstrated experience working with college level or senior level assessment projects for a complex academic organization;
  • Working knowledge of relevant data warehouses (e.g., Banner, MicroStrategy);
  • Demonstrated understanding of forecast methodologies;
  • Comfort and skill with public speaking;
  • Experience with web-based data collection tools; and
  • Knowledge of higher education environment.
