Job Description Summary

Supervisor responsibilities include coordinating, scheduling, and supervising the activities of the building/facility cleaning staff and ensuring that the cleaners keep offices, hallways, stairs and other areas within the building in clean and orderly condition by performing basic cleaning duties. May also supervise the performance of the clean-up and basic maintenance of the surrounding grounds and premises.

The Supervisor will be onsite Monday-Friday 2:30pm-10:00pm + OT.

Compensation: $18/hr.

Job Description

Typical Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises, schedules and assigns the cleaning staff in the daily interior

cleaning of the building which includes emptying waste receptacles, debris

and trash removal, vacuuming/shampooing floors and carpets, dusting and

cleaning furniture, cleaning restrooms, washing walls, polishing, mopping

floors, cleaning up spills, cleaning windows and window coverings, etcl, in

accordance with established procedures.

  • Assigns tasks and inspects building areas to see that work has been done

properly, issue supplies and equipment and conducts inventory of materials

to ensure that an adequate amount of supplies are always present.

  • May conduct or assist the screening and hiring of job applicants, training new

and experienced employees, conducting performance reviews and making

recommendations to management on promotions, transfers or dismissals.

  • May supervise or perform other assigned duties (depending on the building,

facility and client needs) including gardening and lawn care, assisting with

inventory control and supply ordering, snow removal and assisting with

tenant moves.

  • Expected to promptly respond to and notify management of spills and

emergency situations, need for major and minor building/facility repairs,

lights that are out or broken, broken equipment and fixtures, damaged

structures, ruptured pipes/plumbing, problems with heating/cooling and

ventilation, and any other observable safety issues/concerns.

  • Expected to ensure the proper and safely operation (including training)

of cleaning equipment, tools, devices, chemical/cleaning agents including

mops, vacuums, electric polishing machines, power tools and equipment,

and special cleaning solutions in order to efficiently perform the duties and

to avoid harming floors, fixtures, individuals and building staff.

  • Motivate team members and resolve any issues that occur on the job.
  • Respond to customer complaints and special requests.
  • Monitor and replenish cleaning products stock including floor cleaner and

PPE equipment.

  • Participate in large cleaning projects as required.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation policies in all areas.
  • Understand requirements of contract.
  • Responsible for day to day productivity.
  • Manages day to day operations by fulfilling various functions/duties.
  • Has firsthand experience in most custodial operations from cleaning rest

rooms to floor care to office cleaning.

  • Responsible for staffing and work loading.
  • Responsible for dealing with absenteeism and unscheduled events including

emergencies.

  • Functions as coach and trainer for all workers under his/her direction.
  • Responsible for the building/area being services daily as per contract.
  • Has the ability to determine quality outcomes for any given task that is to

be performed.

  • Attends meetings and in-service training sessions as required.
  • Must be able to perform all janitorial duties necessary in instances of staff

shortages.

Candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check, including criminal history.

Other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires attention to detail, a pride in delivering excellent service, organization, and high levels of energy and endurance.
  • Minimum two years of janitorial supervision experience.
  • Knowledge of existing safety laws, rules, methods and procedures including applicable OHSA and its regulations to ensure the safety of staff, the public and building occupants.
  • Ability to assign, train, inspect and evaluate the activities of subordinate personnel engaged in janitorial duties.
  • Management of assigned personnel: motivating, developing and directing people as they work, identifying areas where further training is required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and finger dexterity. Employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific abilities required by this job include, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
