Duties

The BEP is currently in the process of having a new facility built in Beltsville, MD and expect to move to the new facility within the next 5 years. If selected, you may be sent and/or reassigned to the new Beltsville facility. By applying to this position, you understand this potential requirement.

As a Currency Processing Assistant, you will:

  • Prepare and process currency on a computerized state-of-the-art high-speed banknote processing machine.
  • Demonstrate processing data accuracy and adherence to procedures in the use of all automated systems to include daily requirements and balance requirements.
  • Immediately notify management of any increased shred rates, high levels of rejected work, or deviations.
  • Place fit currency produced by the machine in secure wrappings, secure large bundles of currency, push large, heavy containers, and prepare these containers for transfer to another location.
  • Operate in compliance with all applicable Treasury - BEP, Board of Governors, Federal Reserve System regulatory policies and procedures at all times.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for disqualification in the hiring process. The background investigation process conducted by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is very thorough. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service .

Specialized experience is defined as:
  • Experience working with automated machinery systems to ensure processed data is accurate.
Examples of which include:
  • Experience with high speed computerized processing machinery.
  • Experience adhering to procedures in the use of automated systems.
  • Experience using arithmetic when counting and sorting products.
  • Experience processing data accurately.

Education

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.

OTHER INFORMATION:

  • This is a bargaining unit position - 1602 Chapter 201, NTEU - National Treasury Employees Union (GS/Technical Employees).

  • The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for work days during the shutdown period.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • A one year trial period may be required.
  • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.

  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.

  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
  • Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. *The successful applicant must be available to work both day and night shifts - 4 (10hr) shifts Monday through Thursday.
  • Weekend work and overtime, if applicable, will be scheduled when needed based on production requirements as determined by Management.
