The **Crude and STOP Planner** is a critical member of the Borger Optimization team that collaborates with refinery and value chain partners to maximize the general interest profitability of the Mid-Continent region through strategic thinking, advanced modelling, and data analytics. This role involves using computer models to drive short-term and long-term optimization of the refinery with the aim of maximizing general interest returns.

The Crude and STOP Planner is accountable for overseeing the planning and logistics of crude supply to the refinery from the Cushing, OK and Odessa/Midland markets. The Crude and STOP planner regularly optimizes the Borger refinery crude slate based changing market conditions while considering the refinery’s operating constraints and any logistical constraints from the crude supply chain.

  • *Responsibilities May Include**

+ Crude rate and slate optimization for Borger Refinery, including representing the Refinery in crude supply logistics management, tank inventory management, crude blending, and interfacing with the Borger Crude Terminal asset.

+ Support crude scheduling into the Refinery using Aspen Petroleum Scheduler (APS/Orion) as well as assisting with general APS trouble shooting.

+ STOP preparation and presentation: Ownership of the short-term operating plan generation and distribution.

+ MMO/LPO tracking and communication: Document and share refinery lost profit opportunities, including their basis and economic impact.

+ Routine Linear Program model execution to determine optimal refinery rates, slates, and operating conditions. Prepare Run Level and incremental margin guidance weekly.

+ Linear Program model support, including tuning, calibrating, and maintaining the refinery Linear Program (LP). Model. Updates will be made based on: back cast runs, yields data, and data from kinetic models / unit monitoring tools.

+ Own the Crude Quality Monitoring (CQM) and Relative Crude Value (RCV) processes for the refinery to assist the Value Chain Optimization team in determining crude assay quality via HCAMs and substitution values.

The **Crude and STOP Planner** will provide vacation relief and regular weekend coverage for other Optimization group positions such as the Short Term Planner position and Blend Specialist; and may collaborate with the wider refinery team to support turnarounds, catalyst change outs, and other activities.

  • *Additional Responsibilities May Include**

+ Conducting LP runs to assess refinery economics, set operating targets, and guide crude slate selection

+ Utilizing the LP to evaluate project economics

+ Performing Unconstrained Crude Evaluations to support corporate strategy development and assist in contract negotiations

+ Aspentech PIMS, APS, MBO model maintenance and performance monitoring

+ Monitoring crude qualities and tunning crude assays

+ Collaborating to develop the yearly refinery budget and Long-Range Plan

+ Implementing innovative data communication and visualization tools to provide yield and economic information to refinery and value chain personal

+ Collaborating to automate key planning tools and associated work processes

+ Representing the Borger Refinery in the PIMS user group

+ Cross-training to provide vacation relief for other optimization group positions

+ Providing backup blending/logistics weekend support

  • *Required Qualifications**

+ Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions

+ 4 or more years of experience in Refinery Optimization, Engineering, or Advanced Process Controls roles

+ Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (proficient with macros)

+ Experience with refinery Linear Program models

+ Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to support accurate record keeping

+ Commitment to meet deadlines under demanding time schedules

+ Strong interest and proficiency in maintaining and further developing computer-based models to optimize short, and long term, refinery operations

  • *Preferred Qualifications**

+ Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or similar discipline

+ Experience in Refinery Planning and Economics or the Hydrocarbon Value Chain

+ Experience of using Aspentech Refinery planning software: PIMS, APS, and MBO

+ Experience of working with crude assays and HCAMS

+ Familiarity with SAP, Tableau, Alteryx, OIS, and PI software
