The City of Oakland is recruiting to fill three (3) Crime Analyst vacancies in the Oakland Police Department. The Crime Analyst will perform crime and intelligence analysis to support strategic, operational, tactical, and administrative functions of the Oakland Police Department; provide accurate and timely crime and intelligence information and analysis in support of patrol operations, criminal investigations, crime prevention, and major case and multi-agency task forces; prepare and present information and analytical findings to departmental personnel and others; and perform related work as assigned.

Minimum Requirements for Application

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, public or business administration, statistics, information management, computer science or a related field.

Experience
Two (2) years of responsible experience performing crime analysis or related work is required.

License or Certificate
Possession of a valid California Driver's License. Due to assignments and hours worked, public transportation may not be an efficient method for traveling to required locations. Individuals who are appointed to this position will be required to maintain a valid California Driver's License throughout the tenure of employment OR demonstrate the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as required in the performance of duties.

Other Requirements
Must pass a thorough background investigation.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Possession of a certification of completion in Crime and Intelligence Analysis from Sacramento State University or California State University Fullerton
  • Possession of POST completion certificates in Crime Analysis Core Course and Intelligence and Crime Analysis, Level 1
  • Possession of a certification of completion from The International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA) in Foundation of Intelligence Analysis Training (FIAT)

Candidates who demonstrate that they meet the minimum qualification requirements are then invited to participate in an assessment process (or testing) to measure their knowledge, skills, and abilities in job related areas. For this recruitment, all qualified applicants will be invited to a structured interview (also known as an “oral exam).

Candidates who pass each stage in the process will be placed on an eligible list. Some candidates may receive extra points, for example if you are a Veteran with an honorable discharge, or if you are a current City of Oakland resident. If you’re applying to a “restricted” posting and you are eligible as a current City employee, you may also receive additional points for your City service. Extra points are only applied to passing scores, so if you do not pass every element of the testing process, you cannot use extra points to pass.
NOTICE: The City of Oakland has adopted a COVID-19 Employee Mandatory Vaccination Policy.
