Description
Job Overview
This is an entry-level position classification in the Warehouse Department. Responsible for receiving shipments of materials, supplies and merchandise at a warehouse location, unpacking and inspecting shipments for damages and defects, verifying accuracy of shipments received, storing items received in safe and proper places, issuing items for stock, and maintaining inventory and other standard stores records. Work is performed under supervision and is reviewed through observations, review of records, and periodic inventory audits.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Perform manual and specialized clerical work receiving, storing, and issuing a wide variety of materials, supplies, and merchandise at a central warehouse
  • Receive, unpack and unload shipments of materials, supplies and merchandise; check shipments to verify quantity and quality of goods received and conformity to purchase orders and specifications; inspect shipments for defects and damages; report any shortages, damages or other discrepancies; process in-house receiving documents
  • Stock materials, supplies, and merchandise on shelves, in bins or in other safe and proper places, keep shelf stock and bulk stock in a neat and orderly manner.Pull stock items to fill outgoing requisitions and orders; pack and label for delivery
  • Assist in maintaining inventory systems with proper security and identification of items being stored; participate in weekly and annual inventories of stock. Maintain files and records and prepare reports relating to warehouse activities
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand-dollies in receiving, storing and issuing materials, supplies and merchandise; comply with all safety rules and regulations regarding operation of equipment, use of protective clothing and equipment, and proper storing of chemicals and other hazardous materials

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
  • Knowledge of purchase orders, requisitions, freight bills and other related shipping documents

The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

Additional Information
  • Work involves driving a light truck and/or van. Requires sufficient and dexterity to perform all essential functions of the position including lifting and carrying materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling hand-dollies with loads up to 300 pounds, reaching in front of body and overhead while carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds, and operating equipment and vehicles. Work also requires frequent sitting, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and squatting.
