POSITION SUMMARY:


Provide accurate, high quality credentialing practices that comply with regulatory and accreditation agencies, hospital and medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures. Continuously strives for best practice and identifies improvement opportunities in the credentialing process and/or other department activities and assists to facilitate change.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:


The Credentialing Specialist reports to the Manager of Medical Staff and Credentialing Services (MSCS) and is not responsible for the direct supervision of others.


FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages one or more component(s) of the credentialing process (e.g., initial credentialing applications). This includes demonstrated knowledge of best practice and standards and identification of improvement opportunities.
  • Works closely with Supervisor and team to update forms, policies and procedures, and processes relevant to credentialing practices and department activities.
  • Data entry and maintenance of credentialing software and other system software as identified by the MSCS leadership.
  • Provides clerical support for medical staff committees, MSCS, and other activities identified by MSCS leadership. Clerical support includes: scheduling/coordinating meetings, taking minutes, setting agendas and meeting follow up
  • Demonstrates and promotes collaborative partnerships to facilitate teamwork, professionalism, and respect for diversity.
  • Demonstrates personal accountability for own continuous growth and development and seeks out appropriate learning opportunities to enhance competency and improve performance.
  • Provides excellent customer service and recognizes the importance of service orientation to both internal and external customers; anticipates and responds to customer needs; and gives high priority to customer satisfaction.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of high school diploma or GED with up to 2 years of post-high school training, such as in business school, community college, or equivalent is required.
  • Typically requires 3-5 years of related experience, including 1 year of administrative services experience or its equivalent.
  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software programs (including, Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Power Point) is required.
  • Experience using e-mail and electronic calendar
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality is required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to deal effectively with customers are required
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Demonstrated skills to work with deadlines, manage multiple priorities and function independently is required
  • Ability to work flexible schedule in order to provide coverage for meetings is required
  • Ability to function as a high performer in a stressful, frequently unpredictable environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Typing speed of 60-70 wpm
  • Previous healthcare experience with demonstrated knowledge of medical staff policies and procedures and medical staff terminology is preferred.
  • Understanding of department services and terminology is preferred.
  • Experience in minute taking preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) preferred.
