THE POSITION

The Tourist Information Counselor will provide the motoring public visiting Welcome Center facilities with effective, efficient, and accurate information and resources to shape their travel plans.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Tourist Information Counselor will deliver improved customer service to all Penn Dot welcome center stakeholders (tourism industry partners, traveling public, employees and vendors. Improve outreach efforts and strengthen partnerships with industry’s through special programs through working knowledge of Pennsylvania highways, transportation system, public and private attractions and recreation areas, events, weather conditions, accommodations and tourist attractions. You will ensure Welcome Center literature and products are supplied adequately to visiting public and maintain accurate customers-served counts and reservations, notation of visits from government dignitaries and other industry partners. You will perform clerical duties as assigned. Travel is required several times annually for attendance at meetings, travel shows and familiarizations tours for training, educational, problem solving and promotional purposes.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Part-time permanent "on call" employment.
  • Temporarily work hours are 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, with 30-minute lunch.(On call hours are 7:00 am - 7:00 pm).
  • Shifts vary and working hours are based on operational need.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience in work involving public contact; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
  • Willing and able to work in and commute to Northampton County PennDOT Welcome Center: I-78 Westbound, ½ Mile West of PA/NJ Border, Easton, PA
  • Ability to be "on call" between 7:00am to 7:00pm, (temporarily hours are 9:00am -5:30pm), seven days a week
  • Ability to report to work within 1-hour of being called in
  • One year of customer service experience
  • One year of work experience involving public contact
  • Experience working with computers
  • Experience answering phones, composing emails; compiling reports; tracking office activities and inventory; data entry; and filing
