Description:
The Office of Respect Counselor/Advocate provides comprehensive response and prevention efforts for issues of interpersonal violence (sexual/relationship violence/stalking) affecting students at Emory University.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Counselor/Advocate focus on providing trauma-informed confidential crisis response, support, and consultation to students who have been affected by sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic/intimate partner violence, and/or stalking as well as individual and group counseling to aide in healing.
  • Works closely with the Office of Respect Educator and Resource Specialist to develop and deliver psychoeducational outreach and training to the Emory community.
  • Works closely with campus constituents to facilitate trauma-informed care for the Emory student population.
  • Essential Functions:
    • Provides confidential individual and group counseling, support, advocacy, and consultation to students related to issues of sexual or domestic/intimate partner violence, and/or stalking.
    • Serves as a facilitator by interpreting and understanding the needs of the students and referring them to campus (e.g. Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Emory Police Department, and Title IX Office) and community (e.g. city police and emergency department medical professionals) resources, as needed.
    • As a mental health professional, educates students by providing information and assistance regarding reporting options for sexual and domestic/intimate partner violence, harassment, and stalking.
    • Collaborates with the University's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) office, Title IX Office, Student Health Services, and other campus groups and professionals whose mission is to provide health, prevention, and/or response related programs.
    • Maintains timely confidential mental health records related to client contacts consistent with state law, ethical guidelines, and office policy for mental health professionals.
    • Participates in on-call rotation for 24-hour crisis response to Emory students.
    • Performs other related duties as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:
  • May assist with supervision of advocate responders, trainees, and/or graduate assistants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A master's degree in a mental health profession (e.g., Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work), and two years of demonstrated expertise in the prevention of and response to sexual assault and domestic/intimate partner violence.
  • Licensed in relevant profession (provisionally licensed may be considered; must be licensed in the state of Georgia within one year of hire).
  • Knowledge of gender related issues and other cultural influences of sexual and domestic/intimate partner violence and stalking.
  • Understanding of applicable privileged communication laws, and the ability to manage confidential information and to use sound judgment in responding to crisis situations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill, and ability related to crisis response for sexual assault and domestic/intimate partner violence prevention and stalking.
  • Excellent understanding and application of psychological first aid.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and program for a diverse student population.
  • Three to five years of experience as a licensed clinician is preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum two years of demonstrated expertise in the prevention of and response to sexual assault and domestic/intimate partner violence.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a licensed clinician.
  • Established independent license/certification as mental health professional.
  • Advanced training/ certification in trauma therapy (e.g., EMDR, Brainspotting, etc).
  • Experience utilizing Electronic Medical Records.
  • Experience in higher education setting.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
