This position reports to the Correctional Programs Director I and will function in the Programs section at a multi-custody female correctional facility. The main duties of this position are the development and management of programs which must satisfy the goal of offender rehabilitation by providing educational, vocational, recreational, religious, group therapy, and self-help opportunities. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Supervising Correctional Case Managers and ensuring that programs meet the necessary goals by constant evaluation and observation.

  • Training, observing, evaluating, and supervising staff in their duties.
  • Completing, reviewing, and maintaining employee time, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
  • Developing, implementing, coordinating, and supervising programs associated with offender’s treatment, re-entry, and/or behavior.
  • Assisting supervisory staff with any special projects or assignments required by the operational demands of the Programs Section.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

The salary grade for this position is NC08 (Salary Range: $35,788 - $62,628). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW)*:
North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW), in Raleigh, is the state's primary correctional facility for women. It houses the largest offender population in the state and serves as the support facility for the state's other female prisons. The campus-style facility sits on 30 acres of a 190-acre tract of state land in southeast Raleigh. NCCIW houses offenders of all custody levels and control statuses, including death row, maximum, close, medium, minimum, safekeepers and youth. It provides the primary medical, mental, and alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for female offenders.

The facility operates a diagnostic center that serves as the point of entry into the prison system for women. Upon arrival, offenders undergo a series of diagnostic evaluations that will determine future prison assignments.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess *ALL* of the following:*

Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

  • Documented knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs.
  • Documented 12 months (1 year) of correctional programs experience.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a Human Services or Criminal Justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications*: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
