Title: Senior Accountant

Department: The Ground Up

Location: Houston

Job Summary:

The Accountant supervises all accounting activities of The Ground Up including but not limited to financials, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, bank reconciliations, daily banking tasks, inventory control and other functions for multiple business entities. This role interacts regularly leadership regarding financial results, special projects and ad-hoc analyses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the preparation of TGU financials including the month end-close, quarterly and year-end closing cycles
  • Responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, bank reconciliations, daily banking tasks and inventory control
  • Evaluate and recommend policies, procedures and systems related to company efficiency, productivity and internal controls
  • Oversee cycle counts of product inventories and ensure all inventory is accurately accounted for and reported in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Prepare and posting all required monthly journal entries, reconcile inventory in multiple locations, reconcile other balance sheet accounts as required, and perform overhead allocations
  • Direct inventory management and accountability for accurate and complete inventory counts for all nursery locations
  • Identify gaps in effectiveness of work processes and worker performance which contribute to errors in inventory management and product loss
  • Prepare analysis and make recommendations to management
  • Reconcile daily sales and prepare necessary entries
  • Report on any significant budget variances
  • Manage sales data reporting for distribution to sales team
  • Other duties as assigned or needed

Essential Qualifications:

  • A BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of hands-on accounting experience OR Associates Degree and five-plus years of accounting experience
  • Solid knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger, and financial reporting with broad based accounting experience
  • Must Have: Oracle NetSuite Experience
  • Must have two (2) years of the most recent version of QuickBooks
  • Intermediate Excel knowledge
  • Must have a strong eye for detail and for process improvement to streamline procedures
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Previous multi-location and Point of Sale (POS) experience a plus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A valid State issued driver's license and a clean MVR
  • Demonstrated commitment to superior customer service and product quality standards
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and under pressure with minimal supervision

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a nursery, garden center, of a farming operation
  • Knowledge of plants, trees, soil science, and horticulture
  • Accounting experience in a manufacturing and/or production company
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish and English

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time or until the end of the assigned shift
  • Must be able to safely and properly lift and carry plants, pots, and other product
  • May be asked to lift 15 lbs., on a consistent and regular basis throughout the assigned shift with or without assistance
  • Must be able to use both hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating
  • Specific vision abilities required include color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to work with daily exposure to dust and dirt

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
