What is a remote Client Controller?

The Client Controller makes sure the Ts are crossed and Is are dotted. They liaise with the Client Advisor to deliver the bottom line to our clients. They don’t meet with the clients unless called upon. Instead, they focus on what they are good at: running an efficient “Client Team” composed of Accounting Staff members and a group of our clients.

While each member of the Client Team is responsible for completing their portion of work in a timely and accurate manner, the Client Controller is responsible for bringing it all together. This means keeping an eye on work progress, holding their Accounting Staff accountable to their deadlines, adjusting and communicating due dates to the Client Advisor, strategizing with the Client Team on workload when capacity becomes an issue, and improving on our workflow efficiencies.

While performing recurring accounting is not the primary role of this position (as is their Accounting Staff), they may be called upon to jump into the action when necessary. Instead, their focus should be on the review, efficiency and timely delivery of recurring accounting services. If their Accounting Staff needs assistance in understanding or completing their recurring work, it should be taken as a coaching opportunity.

The Client Controller might frequently be pulled in to assist (or sometimes own) accounting projects on their existing clients, as well as certain implementations on new clients. These include (but are not limited to) Workers Comp Audits, 1099s, Business Property Statements, new client services or app implementations, and improvements on existing workflows that are either broken or inefficient.

What you'll be up to every day (i.e. job duties)

• Lead, Manage and hold Accountable (LMA) your Client Team’s Accounting Staff
• Utilization and Quality Assurance over your Client Team’s Accounting Staff
• Continuous Training for your Client Team’s Accounting Staff
• Controls Workflow, Efficiency and Delivery of Recurring Accounting
• Controls Workflow, Efficiency and Delivery of Established Projects
• Assists in Workflow Refinement
• Assists in Accounting Implementations

What we’re looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 3-5 years of industry experience
• CPA, CMA, MBA or similar recommended
• Experience working remotely full-time in a team setting
• Experience with cloud-based accounting tools like QBO, Bill.com, Expensify, Gusto, etc.
• Experience with common client-facing tools like Square, Stripe, PayPal, Shopify, etc.
• Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize daily, weekly and monthly work

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
