This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite in La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Office of Clinical Trials Administration (OCTA) has the delegated authority to negotiate and sign clinical trial agreements on behalf of UC San Diego with commercial/industry sponsors. OCTA provides comprehensive contract review, drafting, and negotiation of human subjects research related agreements with industry, in direct support of UC San Diego’s research and patient care mission. This position is located within the School of Medicine and is part of the UC San Diego Health Sciences organization which is a $1 billion dollar plus organization encompassing 16 departments (14 clinical, 2 basic sciences), 2 professional schools (School of Medicine and Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences), 2 hospitals, and various other programs and units all dedicated towards fulfilling the Health Sciences missions of education, scientific research, clinical care, and community outreach. Under the direction of the unit Director and Contracts Manager, the Contract Administrator provides extensive analytical and administrative support to the Office of Clinical Trials Administration across all department activities, including pre-award and post-award functions. The areas of support include but are not limited to management of OCTA’s website, central phone line, central email inbox, and list-serv; contract triage and intake; contract negotiation support (e.g. communicate with stakeholders, document compliance approvals, perform status-updates etc.); system data entry, data clean-up, and reporting; entering, amending, and maintaining OCTA records in the contract and grant system; creating and maintaining standard operating procedures and best practice guidelines, and other tasks or special projects, as assigned. Other administrative duties may include scheduling and coordinating meetings and events, providing or facilitating training, assisting with event planning, and other administrative or analytical support as needed and other duties as assigned.

As a central first point of contact and source of information for the unit, this position will provide professional, proactive, and helpful customer service, and will provide consultative services to department administrators, researchers, and other stakeholders. This position will also support new research initiatives, new processes, and new or changing systems and programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.

  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.

  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.

  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.

  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail. Including from various sources.

  • Strong customer service skills with demonstrated ability to follow instruction, take direction well, and support team success.

  • Ability to understand budgets and perform simple calculations.

  • Ability to identify information relevant to job duties from a clinical protocol, research plan, and informed consent documents.

  • Ability to timely and adeptly manage a high volume of tasks with demonstrated ability to prioritize.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while also working as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituents.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working within UC or another university setting in research administration.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
  • Ability to adjust work schedule to meet deadlines. Overtime may be required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $43,900 - $91,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $21.02 - $44.01

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
