Consumer Lending Underwriter

Position Summary

The key purpose of this position is to underwrite loan applications via all channels, by reviewing credit reports, application data and collateral, if applicable, to approve, counter offer or deny loan requests.

The responsibilities listed are not intended to be all-inclusive and additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

What you will do…

· Responsible for analyzing consumer loan requests and making credit decisions within granted lending authority and based on established credit union underwriting standards, procedures, and regulations.

· Reviewing and decisioning loan applications to approve, counter offer, decline or forward the loan request to higher levels for decision.

· Working with Loan Specialists and Member Advocates to provide feedback and coaching on application quality.

· Setting terms and conditions of approval.

· Ensuring loan application is decisioned in a timely manner.

· Providing positive member experience by assessing member needs, exploring all options and introducing different types of loans.

· Identifying cross sale opportunities in loans submitted and notify Loan Specialist/Member Advocate of the opportunity.

· Providing professional and prompt service to Loan Specialists/Member Advocates.

· Developing positive working relationship with Loan Specialists/Member Advocates by engaging in productive and effective conversation.

· Coaching and providing feedback to Loan Specialists/Member Advocates to increase their lending knowledge and skills.

· Sharing feedback with Lending Management on a regular basis.

· Responsible for other duties as required or assigned. This includes

· Keeping current on industry regulations and successfully complete annual compliance courses.

· Actively participating in department meetings and initiatives.

· Actively looking for ways to improve the lending process and share observations/best practices with Lending Management.

· Engaging and other duties and opportunities as assigned.

· High school diploma or equivalency

· 3 years relevant experience
