The Program Manager, Variable Compensation is responsible for all aspects of short-term and long-term incentive compensation plan design, analysis, documentation, tracking, administration, and communication. The incumbent delivers thought leadership and subject-matter expertise to stakeholders, advocating for best practices and consistency in programs in alignment with company objectives and brand strategies for a range of unique business units and teams.

Must be able to work independently with a minimal degree of supervision, but also collaboratively within shared assignments and projects involving the comp team, HR, and BRP stakeholders more broadly. Requires both excellent data analysis capabilities, as well as top-notch technical writing skills (ability to synthesize and succinctly summarize information). Must be comfortable working in an environment that features ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Collaborates with business leaders and HR to develop, design, analyze, track, and administer customized incentive plans to reflect the firm and business unit’s strategic objectives.
  • Create customized variable plan options to reflect unique/complex market dynamics. Guide stakeholders to choose the best option, by backing up recommendations with thorough analysis, modelling, and clear presentation of complex material.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with firm leadership and cross-functional partners to ensure company objectives and brand strategies are supported and achieved through the incentive compensation program.
  • Possess deep knowledge of IC data, systems, and processes to ensure data is accurate and reliable for incentive compensation reporting.
  • Partner closely and effectively with VPs to ensure clear messaging and alignment on consistency and fairness of IC Program across all business areas.

  • Works closely with the Finance team to ensure alignment between IC and performance. Understand drivers, assumptions, risks, and opportunities with forecasts, and drive periodic discussions with VPs to align on national forecast to be used for IC goal setting. Support Finance’s efforts through timely and accurate accruals for IC expense and own the Budget for IC Team project spend inclusive of both short term and long-term projections.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Continuously monitor IC performance and perform IC health checks to identify areas of opportunity for improvements.
  • Benchmark and compare with direct competitors on IC plan design, goal setting, administration, reporting, communication, awards/contests, and governance.

The essential requirements of the job include:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or Master’s preferred, with 7+ years of experience in progressively larger roles with an emphasis on compensation incentive plans. Insurance experience a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to set a vision, to lead change, and mentor others.
  • Must be able to present complex information in an accurate and persuasive manner to all levels of management.
  • Ability to assume full responsibility for accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of deliverables completed through own efforts or those of subordinate employees is required.
  • A firm grasp of complex modeling techniques related to various types of high-level analysis (e.g., forecasting, business analytics, compensation incentive modeling, etc.) is required.
  • Must be able to recognize and interpret business issues/opportunities and recommend solutions through analysis.
  • Ability to multi-task with multiple interruptions in a deadline intensive environment is required.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate technical and qualitative information to executives in all functional areas through interpersonal, verbal, and written channels.
MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISORY SCOPE:
Describe the extent to which the position directs and/or is accountable for the work of others. List the number direct or indirect reports if applicable.
  • Individual contributor. This role has no direct/indirect reports.
TECHNICAL, COMPUTER, SYSTEM SKILLS:
  • Advanced MS Excel skills (including but not limited to pivot tables, if statements, and lookups), and the ability to clean, refine, and transform data when necessary.
  • Robust experience with salary surveys and related software.
  • Familiarity with benefits and payroll software (Workday highly preferred).
  • Highly experienced with using the MS Office Suite, and particularly with PowerPoint.
100% remote eligible with occasional travel required (5%, quarterly to Tampa)
