Department Overview:
This temporary position will provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service, and will involve implementation and development of strategies that build community engaged research capacity and community-academic partnerships.
Function/Duties of Position:
The Community Research Liaison (CRL) will work on projects under the direction of Leslie B. Hammer, PhD. The research is focused on the health and well-being of farmworkers, approximately 78% of whom identify as Latine/Hispanic. Dr. Hammer is leading a team to study the effects of a recent bill to provide overtime pay to agricultural workers, which had previously been denied to them.
The CRL, who will come from or have extensive experience with the study population, will assist the team with translation in Spanish, providing contextual information on the community and their lived experiences. They will work closely with community-based organizations (CBOs) in identifying potential participants, assist in setting up focus groups, and assist with data-collection efforts, including obtaining consent from individuals. They will also assist with the development of an NIH R01 grant to further study this population. This person will also assist with the development of recruitment materials in both English and Spanish.

The CRL will have the opportunity to build a marketable skill set in research. They will be expected to manage a variety of tasks, being able to prioritize multiple assignments. They should be able to work independently but also in collaboration with a team, often remotely.

Provide Hammer Lab team with contextual information on the study population. Assist with the preparation of recruitment materials in English and Spanish. Assist with setting up focus groups with and data collection for research participants. Develop materials for new grant submissions.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with major courses in relevant field of research OR
  • Associate’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience OR
  • 4 years of relevant experience OR
  • equivalent combination of training and experience
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience working with or coming from a Hispanic/Latine community
  • Fluency in Spanish, both written and spoken
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge and application of gathering, compiling, and reporting research information
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with major courses in relevant field of research or Associate’s degree with 3-4 years of relevant experience
  • From a family background of agricultural workers in the Pacific Northwest
  • Experience with other indigenous Central American languages
  • Experience with survey data collection
  • Experience with qualitative data collection (e.g., focus groups, interviews)
  • Ability to gather, compile, analyze and maintain, in a range of formats, information from a variety of sources, including research publications, web sources, and internal and external contacts
Additional Details:
Computer work, standing and sitting while using a computer. Hybrid work location, including field work in the community. Position duration: 6 months.
