The Community Outreach Associate report to the Outreach & Programs Manager and will work closely with the Outreach Team, a wide range of internal collaborators, and external partners and stakeholders.

The Opportunity…
GRID Alternatives San Diego is seeking a full-time LISC AmeriCorps member to serve as the Community Outreach Associate. The candidate will begin service on or before April 28, 2023 and serve a minimum of 1700 hours though the end of their 11 month term. The Community Outreach Associate will support the Outreach Team to engage low income, disadvantaged communities.

LISC/AMERICORPS MEMBER ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Community Outreach Associate will assist the Outreach team on lead generation efforts, site assessments, processing and following up on applications for our programs. Specific tasks include:
  • Take part in promoting community awareness of GRID Alternatives’ services and mission by researching, attending, and potentially speaking at community meetings and other events
  • Contribute to developing and participating in virtual and in person community meetings to educate families on our programs and reinforce the practice of energy saving strategies to generate more savings
  • Support the outreach team in adapting and modernizing to new outreaching efforts while keeping everyone safe
  • Assist and shadow Outreach Coordinators in homeowner trainings and eventually be able to conduct training for homeowners after their systems are installed
  • Create easy-to-read materials to promote and educate our families about our services
  • Help research potential partnerships with affordable housing developers, local government agencies, and community-based organizations to more effectively identify, collaborate, and serve income qualified families
What you need to bring to this role
  • Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish and English
  • Full time availability for an 11-month commitment (minimum of 1700 hours)
  • Desire and ability to work with a diverse group of people, particularly those living in low-income distressed neighborhoods throughout San Diego County including Tribal Communities
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong Computer Skills and experience with Microsoft office suite
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (some night and weekends may be required)
  • Ability to work on customer-sites which may require some travel
  • Presenter or public speaking skills experience (beginning level with opportunity for growth)
LISC/AMERICORPS PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible to participate as a LISC AmeriCorps member the candidate must meet all eligibility requirements to serve as a National Service participant including but not limited to:
  • Be at least 17 years of age (note there is no upper age limit)
  • Possess a high school diploma, GED certificate or agree to achieve GED during the term of service
  • Be eligible to earn 100% of the education award and perform the term of national service program
  • Have unexpired proof of status as a US citizen or possess unexpired permanent resident status and be able to provide documentation as determined by CNCS during the pre-enrollment period
  • All candidates are required to complete a criminal history check; visit www.lisc.org for details of who is not able serve in the AmeriCorps program and to learn more details
  • Participate in all national days of service, trainings and cohort meetings hosted by the program
  • Be able to complete the hours within the timeframe of the service term and serve the full term
  • Hired CA candidates must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.

Where you will sit & the places you may go…
The candidate will be working in person from the San Diego Office and could potentially be working remotely from home a couple days of the week after all training is completed. This position may rarely require out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as company-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc.

GRID Alternatives provides vehicles for work travel, and due to COVID-19 current guidelines, we may also require limited personal vehicle use. In the latter instance, GRID will provide travel reimbursement for work-related personal vehicle use in accordance with our payroll schedule. Additionally, all applicants who will be using a personal or work vehicle for work-related travel will need a valid driver's license and a good driving record to be considered.

Let's Talk Money
This is a full-time fellowship position with LISC/AmeriCorps in partnership with GRID Alternatives San Diego. The candidate will ideally begin service on or before April 28, 2023 and serve a minimum of 1700 hours though the end of their 11 month term.

The position pays a total stipend of $21,000. The stipend is taxable and paid in 20 equal checks twice a month from LISC. In addition, upon successful completion of the term of service, the member will be eligible for a $6,495 education award to pay off existing, eligible student loans or return to school. Direct deposit is required.
