Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Community Engagement Core Director will work closely with the various members of the Center for Community Engagement, Environmental Justice and Health (CEEJH) team and T.H.E. EJ lab led by Dr. Sacoby Wilson, a national expert on environmental justice and community science. The Director will assist in a wide variety of tasks related to community and stakeholder outreach and engagement.

  • Manage the Community Engagement Core for the CEEJH team in T.H.E. EJ Lab
Lead outreach and engagement efforts related to environmental justice and health issues
  • Lead the development and maintenance of community-university partnerships
  • Lead implementation of the community-based participatory research (CBPR) and community-owned and managed research (COMR) frameworks
Lead community and citizen science training and research projects
  • Assist with collecting data using qualitative and quantitative approaches in communities impacted by environmental injustice and related health inequities
  • Work with partners to connect with policymakers and the public and educate these groups about environmental justice mapping tools developed by CEEJH
  • Develop outreach materials and infographics on environmental justice issues
  • Establish organizational best practices related to community engaged research
  • Lead efforts to train community members following the empowerment science framework
  • Lead efforts to build the capacity of community members to organize around environmental justice issues
  • Develop workshops on environmental justice including materials on air pollution, goods movement, climate change, and other related topics
  • Assist the team with the review of environmental and climate justice policies, critique of these policies, and development of new policies informed by the experiences of frontline and fenceline communities and underserved communities
  • Assist with efforts to engage legislators to develop new environmental justice bills and legislation
  • Participate in the development, scheduling, and implementation of marketing and enrollment plans
  • Serve as primary contact for external marketing; oversee the creation and distribution of marketing materials, advertising, etc.

Applicants will also be expected to help with the development of grant proposals, manuscripts for publication, and participate in other Lab activities on an as needed basis.

Salary is $65,000-$80,000 full time per year

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
  • MS degree and 3 years of experience in one or more of the following fields:
    • Environmental Justice
    • Environmental Health
    • Health Disparities
    • Health Behavior
    • Health Education
    • Community Health
    • Social Work
    • Sociology
    • Public Administration



Preferences:
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in environmental justice
  • Experience in community-engaged research including community outreach and community-based participatory research (CBPR), civic science, and/or community science
  • Experience with program planning, implementation, management, and evaluation
  • Experience with community organizing
  • At least one reference must be front a community-based organization that you have worked with in a community-engaged research project focused on environmental justice, environmental health, community health and/or public health
