Community Based Specialist Summary:

Community Based Specialists work with youth and families involved with the Department of Child Services and/or Juvenile Probation to improve functioning in various life domains with the ultimate goal of ensuring safety eliminating the need for system involvement. Community Based Specialists provide education, training, mentoring, and support to clients in their home or other appropriate locations in the community.

The role of Community Based Specialist requires consistent exercise of discretion and judgment on matters of significance regarding the health and safety of children and their families/caregivers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assess and coordinate services to preserve, support and stabilize families and promote the well-being of children, youth and families.

· Provide training and education to clients on the following topics:

. Child Development

. Domestic Violence

. Parent Education

. Behavior Managemen.

. Substance Use

. Juvenile Delinquency

. Stress/Anger Management

. Maintaining a Clean Home Environment

. Budgeting

. Resources for Food, Housing, and Childcare Needs

. Improving Children’s Physical, Emotional, Mental, and Educational Well-Being

· Provide transportation and supervision to families separated due to abuse or neglect.

· Recognizing that all cases are unique, develop short and long term family goals with measurable outcomes.

· Represent StepStone Family and Youth Services and the client in Child and Family Team Meetings as required by the Department of Child Services.

· Represent StepStone at juvenile court hearings providing information on the progress of assigned cases.

· Receive and respond to crisis calls to ensure the safety and youth and their families.

· Attend weekly supervision with supervisor.

· Attend weekly staff meetings.

· Provide thorough documentation including formulating treatment plans using professional judgment, considering unique aspects of each case, progress notes, monthly reports, and assessments.

· Offer a flexible schedule to accommodate clients and their families.

Qualifications:

· Requires advanced knowledge and training as evidenced by a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a directly-related human service field from an accredited college.

· Knowledge of community resources.

· Knowledge of child and adult development.

· Ability to work with culturally diverse population.

· Ability to work flexible hours and travel as necessary.

· Ability to work well in a team environment.

· Must possess a valid driver’s license and able to use safe and reliable personal automobile to transport self and clients, carrying recommended limits of coverage as defined by this agency.

· Ability to pass physical including a negative tuberculosis screening.

· Negative drug screen.

· Criminal background checks must meet requirements of service provision standards.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Community Engagement Specialists: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Driver's License (Preferred)
