New Legacy Charter School is a free, public school for pregnant and parenting high school students and their children in northwest Aurora. We are located at 2091 N. Dayton Street, Aurora, CO 80010 and serve approximately 100 high school students and 65 children in an on-site early learning center. The school is authorized by the Colorado Charter School Institute and opened in August of 2015, with our first class graduating in June 2016.

We offer students a rigorous, relevant, and engaging education so they are empowered with the skills needed to raise healthy children and graduate prepared for success in college and careers. Our vision is to see young families creating a legacy of education leading to compelling careers, financial independence, and positive parenting. Our school model includes combining flexibility with a strong school culture based on healthy relationships and student leadership.

I.QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree or be working towards one in any professional discipline OR a valid

Colorado teacher or alternative teacher license
Must be willing to work towards a CTE credential with support from school administration
● Must be bilingual (verbal, reading, writing) in Spanish

II. EMPLOYMENT STATUS:
This is a full-time, exempt, at-will position. The Community Advocate/Advisor reports directly to the High School Principal. This is a 3-year grant funded position with the intent to maintain the position long term through other funding sources.

III. JOB GOALS:
As Community Advocate, responsibilities will include connecting families to the school, organizing regular family events, and helping families access resources and services to ensure their student’s ongoing success. The Community Advocate will also work as an advocate to support students in the
Truancy process.

Advisors are responsible for managing and implementing personal learning plans for students, teaching lessons with a focus on increasing literacy, skill building, competency-based flexible credit acquisition, and assessing learning based on student interests. As an advisor, this position is also responsible for ensuring that students in advisory are well-known and supported in reaching their goals for post-secondary paths. Connecting students to real-world learning opportunities that are relevant to student interests, in and out of the classroom setting, are key to student engagement and achievement.

IV. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Serve as a community navigator, coordinating two resource fairs and four learning opportunities on topics such as social emotional development and resilience each year. At least two of these learning opportunities would be managed in partnership with RISE Colorado, an Aurora non-profit that works to educate, engage, and empower low-income families and families of color to be change agents for educational equity.

● Participate in training in culturally responsive and trauma informed practices.

● Manage a budget (through the grant) to buy food for family events and for mileage to do home visits.

● Provide support to connect students with real world learning opportunities in the community or through college courses or certification programs to acquire employability skills.

● Working as an Advisor to help students develop cross-curricular personal learning projects to demonstrate learning and earn academic credit (in Humanities, Science and Electives).

Other Responsibilities:
● Preparing formal and informal assessments for students to exhibit learning
● Preparing lesson plans, activities, and assisting with development and implementation of course syllabus and curriculum
● Selecting books, software, videos, Internet activities and gathering outside materials relevant to the course work and varying it for different student needs or interests
● Participating in MTSS meetings to provide students with multiple tiers of support
● Taking attendance, documenting student progress, and participating in meetings with high school staff to discuss students, reports and data
● Providing timely written or verbal communication to all stakeholders, including students, parents/guardians, administration, other staff members, local agencies, and the community
● Participating in at least one high school committee
● Establishing leadership opportunities for students
● Ensuring compliance with board and school policies
● Developing and maintaining community partnerships to stay current with industry and keep students connected to real-world happenings
● Maintaining an overall safe and clean classroom environment
● Compiling, preparing, and maintaining accurate records for grant reports on real world learning opportunities and activities of students
● Handling multiple responsibilities simultaneously
● Employing current technology skills that includes but is not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint,

Google Suite, etc.
● Performing additional duties as assigned. This may include, but is not limited to, supervision of students, participation in after-school activities, and leadership conferences/trainings

V. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
● Tasks will require frequent sitting, standing or walking, and may include extended periods of time sitting at a keyboard or standing in a classroom or business setting.
● Tasks require dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, or body in the operation of all equipment related to nurse aide skills or office equipment.
● Tasks may require participation in virtual meetings, interviews, or conferences for extended periods of time.
● Tasks will require driving a personal vehicle to community events, business meetings, stores (for purchasing items), or evaluating a student internship location.
● Tasks will require driving school vehicles with students.
● Tasks may require occasional overnight travel for conferences or visiting other schools in the network for professional development.

● Services would typically be provided during the school day throughout the year, though the Community
Advocate would at times work a non-traditional schedule to accommodate evening and weekend events.
