Communications Engineer:

Intramotev is seeking an Communications Engineer to join the development team to meet growing demands in the development of self-propelled rail vehicles. The role has a strong embedded communications focus with additional electrical engineering abilities – the successful candidate will be a member of the development team working on the innovative self-propelled capabilities in wireless communication systems (cellular, RF, WiFi, mesh technologies, satellite, microwave), on-board network architecture interfaces (CAN, I2C, Ethernet, serial, TCP/IP, UDP, etc.), positioning (GPS, GNSS etc.) and security (encryption, network security) for current and future platforms. The development of these capabilities include multidisciplinary skills - architecture and systems development, integration, and testing. This position will be based out of St. Louis, MO


This position involves working in a dynamic team environment on small (1-2) to medium (3-6) person projects where excellent interpersonal and communication skills are needed. Due to the research nature of the work, project objectives and requirements are likely to evolve over the course of the role. A small amount of domestic travel to support integration, demonstration and customer engagement will be required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop communications architecture design including wireless (WiFi, cellular, microwave, satellite, radio, mesh networks, GPS) and wired (Ethernet, serial, CAN, fiber)
  • Perform detailed communications design including circuit design, system simulation, system documentation, security considerations, configuration.
  • Assist software engineering team with code related to communications
  • Develop validation methodologies to test the provided solutions
  • Perform studies and make recommendations on system and component reliability and availability.
  • Support customer networks including deployment, handover and ongoing support throughout system lifecycle.
  • Research technological advancements for potential application to company business needs.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • At least a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science
  • 1-3+ years of experience with embedded communication systems, communications protocols, embedded system development, and testing communication devices
  • 1-3+ years of experience (in any of the following):
    • Satellite communications
    • Cellular communications systems
    • Modern wireless protocols
    • Radio Frequency (RF) system design
    • Modern modulation schemes
    • Security methodologies and challenges
    • GPS/GNSS
    • Interference canceling
  • U.S. Person (immigration or work visa sponsorship will not be provided)
  • Motivated, detail-oriented
  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; ability to develop innovative and novel approaches
  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment or as an individual contributor
  • Fluent in both written and verbal English

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

Candidate should have a working knowledge of one or (ideally) multiple areas listed below:

  • 1+ years of experience with system architectures
  • 1+ years of experience with C, C++, C# and/or Python programming
  • Unmanned Rail Systems / Unmanned Systems
  • Demonstrated experience working on project teams and collaborating with other engineering disciplines.

Typical Education and Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master+1 years' related work experience, 3 years' related work experience, etc.).
