Why It's a Great Opportunity:
As a tech savvy communications professional with experience in facilitating public facing, highly visible meetings in a remote environment, you will facilitate all council meetings, committee meetings, that are conducted via Zoom. You will communicate and assist residents who are calling in to various meetings for comment and helping them participate in the meetings. Plus you will be involved in preparation of all meetings making sure all participants have appropriate links and coordinate any presentation materials to be displayed and shared.

The Pierce County Council is the legislative branch of Pierce County government and is the policy-determining body of the County, as provided by the County Charter. The county's Home-Rule Charter, approved by voters in November 1980, separated executive and legislative duties by establishing a County Executive and a seven-member County Council. This position is non-partisan and serves as central staff in the Office of the Pierce County Council, under the guidance of the Chief of Staff.

How to be Successful in the Role:
We are looking for a Communications Coordinator who is an excellent communicator, detail oriented and self-motivated. Having the ability to interact and communicate in a positive, engaging manner with internal and external customers as well as the ability to deal with ambiguous data while working in an environment of constant change.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Administer/facilitate virtual Council and Committee meetings via Zoom, or other platforms.
  • Coordinate with PCTV for all required cablecast meetings as needed.
  • Participate in the collection of data and preparation of complex reports requiring thorough knowledge of departmental operations, procedures, and regulations; conduct research and special studies in needed areas and prepare reports.
  • Design, develop, coordinate, and present a variety of information and project materials to support public relations and communication activities, events, campaigns, educational
  • programs, and other promotional materials designed to inform, educate or gain acceptance by the public.
  • Meet with Council members, Council member assistants and Council staff to understand projects and methods of advertisement; assist in the design of publicity campaigns and projects for presentation through a variety of media to include print and online.
  • Under the direction of an administrative manager draft and originate a variety of written materials including, but not limited to, proclamations, reports, web pages and advertising campaigns; assist in the design of publicity and other visual materials.
  • Utilize a variety of technical and specialized computer graphics design software; assist staff with using appropriate software for specific applications
  • Provide information, assistance and advice concerning specialized or technical operations and related office functions or products; assist co-workers in solving problems and/or accessing data or reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Arts, Marketing, or a related field.
  • One or more years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties of the position, preferably in areas of design, advertising, or marketing.
  • Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
  • Knowledge of Online/Virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and others.
  • Administrative and general office practices and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a public agency with elected officials is preferred.

Special Requirements and/or Qualifications

  • A valid Washington state driver's license may be required when travel is required of the position.
