Position Overview

Through a combination of experience, a willingness to learn, and a diligent work ethic, the Color Management Technician ensures printer color accuracy within the Graphic Production department. In this vital role, you will ensure that all production printers are set up correctly, color accuracy is maintained, and other production readiness requirements are met. The position reports to the Graphic Production Manager.


Key Job Responsibilities

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Generate accurate media profiles for all output devices and substrate types using color management software, RIPs, spectrophotometers, and other calibration tools and devices.
  • Perform, advise, or monitor printer linearization, ink limit settings, output device settings, file output and print settings, rip settings, printer calibrations, nozzle checks, head height, heat, and drying setting, etc.
  • Monitoring environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, static, dirt, dust etc.
  • Print and check targets regularly to maintain color consistency.
  • Maintain all CM related equipment by performing basic maintenance and software updates.
  • Evaluate the printing and testing of new materials and ink configurations for print production and R&D purposes.


Skills

  • Comfort working in RGB, CMYK+, and Lab color spaces. Also, PMS Spot color, builds, vector files and image files.
  • Train and assist production staff to use and understand CM techniques to consistently achieve intended results.
  • Maintain ownership of color managed workflow process.
  • Committed to process improvement, additional color management related training and ongoing learning.
  • Organized record keeping and SOP generation.
  • Ensure consistent print quality and workflow, and output accuracy by directly interacting with the detailers and print production personnel.
  • Aid QC as needed and assist in the promotion of quality conscientious work culture.
  • Maintain a reasonable sense of urgency when problem solving or completing projects.
  • Collaboration and interaction with multiple departments. Build positive relationships with others.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment and work independently.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.


Safety

  • Follow all applicable OSHA and corporate safety protocols and regulations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by maintaining a clean, organized workspace.
  • Inspect equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment.


Job Qualifications

  • 4-6 years’ experience working in large format printing or a similar print environment.
  • Working knowledge of or a willingness to learn how to use color management software.
  • Color vision test score of 0-16 on Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test. Color vision test score of Normal on the Ishihara Color Blind test.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, and InDesign.
  • Experience working with Windows-based operating systems.

Work Environment

Warehouse

Work is performed at event venues as well as in a warehouse environment. Team members must adhere to appearance guidelines as defined by Hargrove based in a warehouse environment and when traveling, on an individual venue or a representation of venues in that city or area. When in the Warehouse, work will be completed in an environment with exposure to outdoor temperatures and to dirt, sand and/or dust. The working conditions will vary between moderately quiet to noisy volumes. Team members may use high-end audio-visual equipment and electrical components. Working times may include irregular hours and on-call status including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
