Job description

Major function of this position is to manually clean the interior and exterior of Suburban Passenger cars

Accountabilities

  • Specific duties include, but are not limited to, removing paper, trash and other debris from cars; turning seats; sweeping floors with a broom; washing floors with a mop and pail of cleaning solution, cleaning washrooms and toilets; cleaning windows; supplying cars with water, toilet paper and handtowels; handling and using a variety of cleaning fluids, solutions and compounds; picking up trash, litter, etc. in adjacent areas
  • Cleaning air ducts on suburban coaches
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle conflict situations
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)

Qualifications

Required
  • Proficient verbal communication skills
  • Ability to speak English in a clear, concise manner to communicate with coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
  • Experience reading and understanding instructions (examples may include: operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documents)

Preferred
  • Experience working outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Experience working various shifts, overtime, holidays, and weekends

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain standing for more than one-half of every work day with an opportunity to periodically change position for comfort
  • Able to make frequent coordinated hand movements to grasp, place, or move objects
  • Able to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs
  • Able to occasionally pull objects weighing up to 41 lbs
  • Able to frequently walk to access passenger cars and supplies
  • Able to occasionally climb and maintain balance when accessing work areas
  • Able to occasionally bend, stoop, and kneel

Work Conditions

  • Must be willing and able to work around large equipment such as railcars, locomotives and cranes
  • Willingness to practice safe work habits
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Agree to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection where the company requires
  • Authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
  • Work will take place both in a shop environment and outside

  • Willingness to work outside regardless of weather conditions
  • Must not have interviewed for this position within the last 6 months
  • To the extent required by federal law and/or collective bargaining agreement, membership to the respective labor union is required. The union agreement dictates the pay rate and cannot be individually negotiated. Monthly dues are the responsibility of the employee.
