Description:

The Clinical Supervisor serves as part of a multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating leadership within the team. Under general direction and with great latitude for independent judgment and initiative, is able to independently perform most complex clinical and case management assignments. The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for providing mental health emergency intervention services to individuals in crisis or to community agencies with individuals in crisis. Will assess level of risk and immediacy of the service needed. Conducts mental status examinations to establish provisional diagnosis and evaluates need for legal holds and level of care. Refers for appropriate follow up services. Collaborates with client, family, law-enforcement and community agencies around safety and disposition planning.


How will I contribute

  • Independently assess for risk and provide crisis intervention services for persons throughout the county utilizing culturally sensitive, client/family-centered, strength-based, and well ness and recovery models of service delivery
  • May also perform comprehensive intake assessments for persons with serious mental illness or serious emotional disturbance seeking Specialty Mental Health Services
  • Provide psychotherapeutic interventions/services in accordance with accepted professional and ethical standards of licensing/regulatory bodies
  • Meet with individuals and/or families in designated settings to develop client-centered service and/or safety plans
  • Develop crisis intervention and safety plans, identify appropriate treatment methods, and use a variety of applied psychotherapeutic techniques; cooperate with professionals from other disciplines in the development of crisis intervention and safety plans
  • Adapt the assessment and treatment processes to accommodate variations in readiness for treatment/change, and implications of age, cultural, medical, economic or other relevant factors
  • Develop recommendations for discharge and follow-up treatment planning for clients and their families; may be assigned administrative responsibilities, including scheduling and case assignments; prepare and present progress reports on assigned cases
  • Performs involuntary hospitalization assessments and arranges for hospitalization; if necessary, may serve as an expert witness in court cases
  • Provide advocacy and systemic support for client mental health and community activities
  • In the absence of the Clinical/Program Manager, provide selected administrative direction to the team
  • Serve as lead Clinician, providing clinical consult/supervision for other Mental Health Clinician I/II’s
  • Responsible for meeting weekly with unlicensed/licensed Clinicians for clinical supervision and documentation training
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures as assigned
  • Assist Clinical/Program Manager and the treatment team in preparing for chart audits
  • Maintain service logs and produce department statistics as assigned
  • Maintain shift assignment calendars as assigned
  • Develop and participate in training on a variety of topics such as cultural competency, clinical practice, compliance, treatments planning, case management and make presentations to local agencies and community groups regarding issues related to mental health and or substance abuse
  • Participate in Standby rotation to provide backup coverage for after-hours/overnight and weekend/holiday shifts.

What I bring

  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, marriage and family counseling, or related
  • BBS Registration Required
  • LCSW or LMFT certification Required
  • 3 years of professional experience working in mental health counseling, psychotherapy, and related social services in a public or certified private welfare or health agency. 2 years post licensure. 1 year experience supervising/directing others.
  • Experience in risk assessment, crisis intervention, and safety planning is required.
  • Working knowledge of community and hospital resources.
  • Ability to quickly develop rapport with individuals to resolve crisis situations.
  • Ability to assess individual’s potential for dangerousness to self, others and/or grave disability.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external customers.
  • Ability to make a differential diagnosis between substance abuse and psychiatric emergencies.
  • Ability to appropriately and immediately document interactions with patients and potential patients.
  • Working knowledge of Windows based computer applications to include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet access.
  • Ability to utilize computer technology as required for admission, documentation and other uses.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a sometimes hectic environment with frequent interruptions.
