The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvardseeks an organized and motivated Clinical Abstractor (CA) for an exciting collaboration between the Broad Institute and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This collaboration champions unique, patient-partnered cancer genomics projects that are open to patients across the country through online portals (find out more at JoinCountMeIn.org).

The success of these projects is contingent upon finding a motivated CA who will focus on obtaining and abstracting clinical data elements from patient medical records. The CA will work closely with a growing team of clinical abstractors that oversee the generation of clinically-annotated data. The ideal candidate for this position will be highly detail oriented, have familiarity with reading and abstracting information from medical records, be able to work with computerized databases and other tracking systems, have a desire to continuously refine research processes and most importantly have a genuine interest in learning about various cancer types and growing in their clinical knowledge.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and abstract information from medical records
  • Generate clinical summaries from abstracted information
  • Responsible for data reporting and management
  • Maintain confidential, accurate, and detailed abstractions
  • Assist in process improvement for content management, tracking of records and abstraction workflow

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a science or health related field required (If major is non-science, having a science related minor or taking science classes to satisfy prerequisite requirements would suffice)
  • Experience working in a medical and/or scientific research setting is preferred.
  • Ideal candidates are those who are on pre-medicine/other pre-health/other science related graduate school track with an interest in clinical data.
  • Must commit to work for 2 years
  • Previous experience reading and/or abstracting information from medical records preferred.
  • Must have the focus, energy and dedication to spend the majority of your time performing careful in-depth reading of complex medical records.
  • Must be detail oriented and self-motivated, with the ability to effectively manage time and prioritize workload.
  • Must practice discretion and adhere to patient confidentiality guidelines at all times.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and time management skills required. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging work environment and respond to shifting priorities. Must possess a high level of initiative and flexibility.
  • Must have computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office. Experience working with data tracking and organization preferred.
  • Must be open and flexible and able to work in a constantly evolving, rapidly growing team. Ability to be nimble with processes is essential.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
