The primary purpose of the HCT I (Classroom Based) position is to ensure safety and quality active treatment for the people residing at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center through direct program/service development and implementation. The position receives direct administrative professional supervision from the Dogwood Resource Center Director. The primary purpose of the education program is to design and implement functional age-appropriate educational and meaningful day training for residents. The primary responsibility of the Classroom Based Trainer I is to plan and provide direct educational and vocational training to youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Classroom Based Trainer I implements training programs and activities addressing skills in the areas of domestic / self-care, dressing, cooking, eating, and clothing care; leisure, group games, and individual hobbies; social / communications, expressive communication skills and receptive language; craft manufacturing, housekeeping skills, and community employment; community transition skills, restaurant skills, and seat belt usage; and functional academics. The Classroom Based Trainer I completes paperwork as required for the classroom and cottage. Classroom Based Trainer I will attend meetings and trainings as assigned.

Salary Grade MH01; Recruitment Range $31,200.00 - $42,061.00

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies


To receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form.   • Documented experience in implementing treatment goals, programs, and/or person-centered plans.

Management prefers:
  • Employee will be required to successfully complete training through our Staff Development department which includes, but is not limited to NCI, CPR, Body Mechanics and lifting.
  • Frequent lifting and bending required.
  • To be considered for employment the applicant must be in good standing with the NC Health Care Personnel Registry.
  • The applicant must pass the physical requirements test.
  • Must be capable of providing eight hours of care and training to individuals with severe intellectual and physical disabilities. Must react quickly under stressful situations to keep residents safe. Must be able to accurately observe and record information.
  • Two years of experience providing direct services to people with developmental disabilities in health care or related area.
  • PCP and PPS knowledge.
  • Skill integration knowledge.
    Data Collection knowledge.
  • JIRDC Van License.
  • Program Writing class completed.
  • Ability to implement BSPs.
  • Craft and activity creation ability.
  • Ability to multitask and work with changing work assignments and classroom needs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
